Possible Scam?

Jump to solution

I recently opened a shop with some new items. I got an email today saying I had made a sale. I went on Etsy and sure enough I have 1 sale.
I clicked on email through my phone just to be cautious. And it asked me to verify my card information on my account to receive the payment. They asked for verify my card information and enter my current balance to verify my ownership and access to the card.

I got suspicious after inputting my card information and checked the email. The worst part about this, is the email was FAVORITED. I have no idea why it would be. But it was: etsy@nseccuerr-585748 and I knew I had screwed up at that point. Has anyone had this happen before?
Immediately I closed out of the thing and turned off my phone. Contacted my card company and nothing was attempted on my card. I'm getting a new card now. But thought this was kind of crazy. The email had all my info on it, and it also showed I had a sale on my store. When I checked afterwards, the sale was canceled.

Ya I honestly dont know what I was thinking. I'm always super cautious about these things, but the email being favorited somehow and the sale on the website dashboard showing really made me think it was real for a few moments.

@TryHardTeeShirts was it an email direct to your email account? Or was it an Etsy message (Etsy also sends you the standard message notification email)

Please could you also explain what you mean when you said the 'email being favourited'. Do you mean it was 'flagged as important'?
