Please help - VAT ID still showing on my shop after removal

Jump to solution

We are a UK seller. Our shop is https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/AlexisSoutham

We have been on Etsy for more than ten years. At the beginning of this year we had to register for UK VAT and we then gave our VAT ID number to Etsy as we were supposed to do. On June 1st we were able to deregister from VAT and when we went in to remove our VAT ID we found it was impossible for us to edit it.

Through a live chat with Etsy we were told that our VAT ID had been removed from our file, which seems to be the case, but it is still showing publicly on our main shop page and is still impossible to remove from our Shop Manager.

We cannot legally sell anything while an old, defunct VAT number is still showing. We are in breach of UK law. Etsy also seem to be in breach of their own privacy policy as we have no control over our own tax information.

We've contacted Etsy through further channels, such as a phone call, and at least two support tickets are supposedly active, but one of them doesn't even reply to us anymore and the other one sends stock replies that don't even sound like a human being.

It's been almost two months now, and our business is being ruined by this. We were star sellers for several months in a row with 675 sales and 5 star feedback. We have no option but to keep our shop on holiday until this is sorted out. I can't understand why it's impossible or difficult to have this removed from public display on our shop so we can continue selling.

Can someone at Etsy please help us and sort this out? The support ticket numbers were 12574472 and 12518191

Don't see your VAT ID anywhere in your shop.

I can see it -- scroll down to "Sellers Details" and it is there just above the link to click through to see the address

Don't keep opening new support tickets -- that automatically closes the previous one.

Just keep replying that you still need help and eventually a real person should get to read and answer your problem

I hadn't realised that the previous tickets get closed, but the current one that I get responses to sound like a chatbot replying and that's getting on for two months now. I just feel abandoned by Etsy over this.

To edit it from Seller details, go into edit shop mode, scroll down, click edit and remove it.

It doesn't automatically get removed from there, even if you remove it from legal and tax info.

Hi, thanks for responding. I've tried that and it won't let me remove it. If I delete it and try and click 'save' it tells me to enter a valid VAT ID, which is the same as what it says when I try to do it from the legal and tax info section in shop manager.

Hey, did you ever figure out how to remove it? I have a similar issue where I need to remove a VAT ID but Etsy keep giving me the same generic response.

I have just been on the live chat and they have removed it all for me. It doesn't allow you to remove yourself!
