@VintagePatternCo Unfortunately that will not help our customers who normally use the same browser and do not clear their cache.
I think the only way to go right now is to leave our thumbnail images the way they are and wait for the next "thing" from Etsy, whether it be an end to this test or...
It varies by browser I agree. I havent tried Safari as I haven't a MAC but it is also off and on on both browsers of Chrome and Firefox. Sometimes they fit as they were, sometimes not. My gosh we need some direction here on if the change is permanent, a test, Etsy please speak to us.
UPDATE: I spoke with Eduardo at Etsy Support. He said Tech is aware of the situation with the cropped images on thumbs and is working on a fix. I was told not to re-size at this time.
I was able to order from two Etsy shops today, but they both were a mess like mine. Photos run together, sides cut off, no complete text other than maybe a line or two. I had to jump around a bit but was able to place both orders. This is really disgraceful.. its been going on for more than a week, no official word other than different stories from the help desk, BUT NOTHING HELPFUL. Very frustrating, and still no official word from Etsy. Crickets...
I am also experiencing this and I’ve just uploaded a bunch of new products and updated half of my photos. I am praying this is a glitch or I am going to be fuming!
I will try to wait patiently to see how this sorts out. It is evident in my shop too both on Safari and Chrome, but there is so much conflicting information, even from Etsy support. Some say it is a test, some say it's a "known issue", some say resize, some say don't. After 13 years on Etsy, I know enough to sit tight for a glitchy, bumpy rollout, change, or fix.
Hello, I am experiencing this too - all my listings are now with square images. My shop looks messy and quite honestly this new update /or issue/ makes Etsy look cheap - the photos look like they are bad quality and are all cropped weirdly. I hope this goes away...
I was on chat to them today and they told me this:
"Alright I see what you mean there and actually, Our engineering partners are currently aware of that matter.
At this time, we do not have a timeframe for when this issue will be resolved, but please know that we prioritize our technical issues based on the impact to our marketplace."
So hopefully it will actually be resolved at some (?) point!
Noticed my photos cropped too. No good as was showing all items particularly paintings with frames which is so important now the sides chopped off. Too many things going ring at the moment unfortunately from tracking across the board to messages no notification no sale notification, favourites again hit or miss. I wonder if it is hacking but l have noticed all of these odd things have happened since new seller app rolled out to everyone. Who knows but it's not normal. None of it.

Thanks Kayle. It really is a pain in the neck especially for those of us who have thousands of listings and having to re-scale each thumb. Hoping Etsy Tech can figure this out for us all shortly. In the interim till Etsy has resolved this issue, I can say I too have been used an 80% scale ratio and, while I have just about gone banananananas doing this, that ratio is working out so the thumbs fit within the frames.
I see in the above email they wrote "please know that we prioritize issues based on the impact to our members", perhaps if more of us could raise a ticket with them this issue will be fixed sooner!
NOT FIXED in my shop, photos still elongated, run together, no description or prices. Still a MESS. Safari on Mac laptop, but I don't think this matters at all, crap shoot on who is back to normal.
I had reached out to their support team about this, it's a known issue they have been escalating it and investigating it. Apparently, it's just a glitch because most photos that look cropped incorrectly on the homepage of our stores still show correctly via the search listings and whatnot!
