Whats going on with all the photos being cropped? Is etsy sorting this out?
I wonder what the stockholders think of this current fiasco. As a former software developer, I'd say etsy's current staff should be ASHAMED.
My pics are back to normal.
@CatherinesAtticFinds Mine are too. Fingers and toes crossed!
My also!
Mine looks normal again too.
Omg mine are back to normal on desktop, such a relief! Hope it stays, but they are still cropped on the app.
Oh hallelujah! I had found a minor work-around (adjust the thumbnail in the new listing edit tool, which had them all larger than needed). But just now when I looked they were all back to the size they were intended to be!
unf. the new listing form doesn't honor domestic and int'l shipping profiles if the shop is outside the USA so we have to use the old listing form. Maybe Etsy will fix this so we can use the new one! Glad you are sorted.
Etsy has announced that they are officially going to a square format for the first photo:
It was a test and they’re moving forward with it. Grrrrrr…
It's confirmed people. Get ready to change them all!
Get ready everyone to put in overtime trying to re-edit to all your listing thumbnails....
The way I read it is that new pictures/listings should use the new format. Old pictures should be fine & should not need to be edited or retaken. Am I understanding correctly?
I have literally HOURS of work ahead of me then, not listing NEW items but redoing most of my 958 listings.
LOL I hear you @Catherine et al. I am down to 4,500 that need amending. Like I always say, when you believe you are done it is rarely the case!
PS + @4WingsandaDream - I haven't seen that previous listed photos are okay at all. Pretty much we had to and still have to re-size them all. I do believe square images are superior esp for the off-site ads on other sites but this is a lot of work.
My listings are fine & reading this forum thread, many other sellers are fine as well.

This seems so silly to me. Are buyers actually going to buy more because the photos are square. Am I missing something???
Etsy LOVES to waste their resources fixing stuff that ain't broke.....
Is everyone going to start editing their thumbnails now, or wait until it's been changed in your shop view? Unsure whether to get ahead now or wait (for reference I have just over 300 listings, so perhaps not as many as some others on here!)
@TheIvyEstate The Etsy market pages are already displaying square images but our shops & search are not. So I suggest checking how your thumbnails look on the market page before making any changes.
In theory if it looks ok there it "should" look ok when the change comes in, but we won't know for sure until that time.
This is the easiest way to find your listing on the market page, thanks to @BlackSheepDyeworks
"An easy way to see any of your listings in a market page is to copy the url, including the first part of the title, up any question marks, if present. Replace /listing/[listing#]/ with /market/
Example: my listing https://www.etsy.com/listing/1431137862/hand-dyed-yarn-bulky-weight-100
becomes this market page: https://www.etsy.com/market/hand_dyed_yarn_bulky_weight_100"
Please wait. My shop is showing square images & I have not had to edit anything. There are some sellers that like to create panic & drama where none exists.
Etsy has announced that listing pictures will be square. Everyone will be seeing it soon
@DaysofYoreTreasures thank you for all the useful tips! I have checked and yes, it seems like my photos are cropped into square already on the market pages. Going to need some energy drinks and a heck of a lot of spare time to get through all my thumbnails!
Hi guys, yes they are cropping into square however, depending on the photos, this may leave it very cut off in the thumbnail view so still needs manual adjusting.
Yeah, that new square format should be excellent for showing scarves or anything that requires a vertical orientation to see the entire product. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. And I suppose I should prepare to reshoot scarves folded up instead of displayed as one would wear them.
