Re: Payment problem
No, this is a SCAM! And I'm sorry you were hit with it. Most likely he will say he needs your email to make a purchase. Do not give it and do not engage. All Orders go through Etsy Payments. Many Sellers have been ripped off by these scammers. Mark this Message as Spam.

Re: Payment problem
@Shaizdigital I don't want you to get ripped off if it's a scam. As VintageResueSquad and hopeandjoystudios said, if there is a problem with payment, he needs to contact Etsy.

Re: Payment problem
If a real buyer has problems paying, they need to contact etsy, not you!
This is most likely a SCAM

Re: Payment problem
Even if true (which it isn't) there would be nothing to do on your end. THEY would need to contact Etsy. This is a scam. Put in your mark as spam file.

Re: Payment problem
It may be a scam, but there is also a tech issue going on at the moment. Tell him to try again in an hour.

Re: Payment problem
As posted above--YOU can do nothing. HE needs to contact Etsy. This is between him, Etsy and his payment provider.

Re: Payment problem
This is most likely a scam to get you to take this off Etsy, new sellers have been a target lately. Don’t give your PayPal, don’t share your bank information, don’t give your email and certainly don’t click any links or open files they send.
If the buyer has a problem with payments he needs to talk to Etsy. The buyer has to do that, not you the seller. You can not change or influence anything regarding payments.
Tell customer to contact Etsy and that without an order that has passed payment on Etsy you can’t sell him anything.

Re: Payment problem
regardless, it might not be a scam but you are not part of the solution. The potential buyer needs to sort it out with Etsy and their bank if payment isn’t going through.
You can not solve their payment issue
Out of curiosity, do they want to buy a lot? Because you are investing a lot of time and energy on this.

Re: Payment problem
@Shaizdigital: Presuming that this not a scam, just inform the buyer that Etsy WILL NOT share any financial information about a buyer with you, not even the reason for a payment decline or failure and that they will have to contact Etsy themselves. You are not a party to the transaction until Etsy has accepted the order and the payment. Years ago we received a few of these where the buyers wanted to take the transaction off Etsy which is blatantly against the rules.

Re: Payment problem
I received a question today from someone named Mathilde: 'Dear Gerda, I would like to buy the 6 plates for my daughter's birthday via Etsy, but IDEAL does not work. Can we arrange it some other way? I do not have creditcard.'
I suspected a sneaky scammer so I kindly but firmly let her know that this is not possible. Don't fall for it

Re: Payment problem
if the customer is having problems with iDeal (it happens, it’s a known glitch) send her the link on how to properly check out with iDeal. They need to return to Etsy after the transaction in the bank app or it won’t trigger an order with you.
So could potentially not be a scam, but indeed you never know and you rightly decided to not take it off Etsy… better safe than sorry.

Re: Payment problem
Scam or no scam... The SOLUTION is... the "buyer " HAS to contact Etsy support. The seller has NO authority do anything with the "customer's" payment.
