Hello All,
Seeking some guidance on a current situation. I have a customer who has paid and placed their order with my shop. The customer is asking for express shipping after placing order. How can I change the shipping status and payment? Is there a way without canceling the order?
Just make a custom order for the difference ( what they already paid in shipping- express) and list it for them to purchase. Then make sure you mark complete and add tracking to the new order too when you ship.
Thank you so much for your response. Truly appreciateyour help.

when this has happened to me in the past I just created a custom listing for upgraded shipping so they can pay

I tried this, but it made me select either an item or digital format. So I selected an Item, made the "item" the price for upgraded shipping.
Somehow when the customer made the purchase for the shipping upgraded, the listing showed an Item in the description and shipping payment. Basically, it did'n't work well for me. What step am i missing

I avoid situations like this by offering a First Class (if under a pound), Priority and Express shipping option to begin with, and they can pick the one they want when they order. After the fact, I set up an item titled Reserved for Last Name. You have to charge at least .20 for the item, then you can put the rest as additional shipping. Have them purchase that, then put the tracking number on both orders. Don't forget to add the Etsy fees you will need to pay on the listing for the postage if you want to collect exactly enough to pay for the additional postage.
Thanks for such a clear answer!!
Everyone, I mean, thanks all for your answer, this was hard to find in the seller handbook.
Hi . . . I'm in a situation where I think I'll need to do exactly this. What I'm trying to figure out now is how to actually create the Custom Listing for just shipping. From what I've read, the customer must first make a Custom Request. . . can somebody confirm if that is true or not? Or is there a way to create a Custom Listing without the customer's interaction?
Just seems a little awkward from a service standpoint to have to ask the customer to do this. . .
thanks to all in advance....
You don't have to make a custom listing, you can just make the listing for the amount to cover the new charges, postage, fees, whatever you need. Then just list it with their last name or initials in the title. I usually just say reserved for whoever.
And in the description I say, as we discussed per messages.
Thank you for that insight – I actually started to do just that, but then realized that there is all this irrelevant metadata – like, "is the item handmade", etc., so I bailed. I guess it's probably ok to just skip all of that, because it's obviously N/A, but just felt 'wrong' . . .
Thanks again!
Same! Etsy should find a way for shop owners to send an invoice for anything additional like upgraded shipping after purchase. I have a customer who wanted to upgrade to Express Shipping after their order ( so I said of course), but there is no great way to do that... Sigh.
So I did what was suggested above, upgrading canada post ground to canada post AIR, without remembering that there is no tracking on AIR. So there was nothing to add as a tracking number to the completed listing. I'm hoping that my shop stats don't go down because I've now got that upraded shipping listing sold now, with no tracking and the actual shipping was purchased through etsy on the other listing. Just something to consider, I'll only upgrade in this fashion to tracked methods in the future.
