Packing slips missing buyer message

My packing slips no longer show the "message to buyer" (Settings => Info and Appearance => Message to Buyers). 

I've checked that all "customize" options are selected when printing a packing slip, but the message no longer appears.  

Is there another place in the shop settings where that message needs to be set up?  If so, I sure can't find it.  Or do I need to enter that manually for every order?  I can't find that, either.

It's important that my product instructions be included on the packing slip! Help!

The message to buyers via info and appearance is NOT what gets put on packaging slips … that message only goes out upon initial order confirmation.  For packing slip messages, you can set those up via customization &/or when you purchase the shipping label (upper right hand side of page).  You can set multiple messages and assign whichever one you want to use for individual orders, or use the same one for all orders.
