Orders processing with incomplete addresses growing issue

Over the past week I’ve had several orders which have come through without complete addresses. None of the buyers have responded to messages for confirmation of the information which leaves me with two questions are they receiving the messages and how can Etsy process a payment without address detail for the payment method.  I’ve pushed out despatch dates as far as I can but it seems to be growing trend which feels very much like a recent error in order processing. All the orders in question come through with the surname as the first line of the address

Don't send messages.  Send emails asking for the address and giving a date for the email to be answered.

What exactly are the errors?  Something you can correct or missing pieces like numbers.  But not all users have complete addresses.  Some people have very sparse addresses.

For the US, you can check USPS data base.

Etsy does verify addresses for the postal systems that allow it.  Not all postal systems are tied into Etsy and when starting an account the buyer can put in anything even if there is a pop up with a verified address.

Re: Orders processing with incomplete addresses growing issue

That sounds like a strange glitch where buyers would put their surname in the first line of the address box.  Etsy's address frame is quite lacking in general and often the address order is mixed up but I have never heard of this new glitch.  As above, move the shipping date (click on the 3 dots in the order box and select Update Ship Date) and this automatically sends a message to the buyer to inform them and you can add to the message to say you are awaiting verification of their address.

Of course, if they don't reply then you will need to cancel the orders.  Be sure not to let any of them become overdue or you may find Etsy slapping a Payment Reserve on your shop.

Re: Orders processing with incomplete addresses growing issue

I had 2 yesterday. I try running the partial address in google maps sometimes that helps. If no clue there I email the buyer directly. Luckily it turned out that both live in very rural areas. Both replied to my direct emails. I always notice a lag in Etsy message notifications. Regularly I have to refresh the page once sometimes twice, so I know most buyers are not as quick to always see messages in Etsy. Maybe it is because of the holidays. I can drive myself crazy hoping people will respond. Good luck to you!

Re: Orders processing with incomplete addresses growing issue

It’s generally the part that can’t be checked on any search, a street name can be searched from the postal code but not the house number. It does seem like a specific glitch where the first line of addresses isn’t being pulled through instead it places the surname on that line. It’s odd. Yes I can and do move shipping times with a deadline for confirmation and I would cancel if necessary but in all honesty Etsy need to get on top of this issue as it’s sporadically recurring. I’ve not seen it before on this site and a growing number in a week can’t be a coincidence

I had one kinda like this too. The name was in the first address line, with the street number and name in the second address line. The field for the name was blank. I suppose it could be user error, but it's odd and I've never seen it happen before.
