I was charged for an offsite ad for a sale on 10/16.
Going through all the stats for that item since January, two
views were from Instagram, and the item was not a post on instagram.
Does this mean that on IG anyone who clicks on the link to my Etsy shop and buys
anything, it is considered an offsite ad?
If so why even bother creating a link, I should just try selling one on one through IG.
I don't run any sales, or buy any advertising on Etsy.
Clicking on an offsite ad and then buying anything in your shop will count as a purchase from the ad.
So, any post on IG is considered ad offsite ad, whether it's my cat or an item for sale?
Which takes me back to why bother putting a link to my shop, so they can take an extra 12% of the total sale?
Not at all, posts are different than ads. It's possible there can be both posts and ads on Instagram.

In stats - offsite ad stats,
the left hand item, shows what item the ad was for, the day, and the platform, the right hand item, is what they bought
the left hand one has to be an etsy paid for ad they they clicked on - that etsy was charged for
Thanks!

No - not from your posts. Etsy advertises on Instagram.
@cristinasroom: The buyer needs to click on an ad that Etsy ran for one of your items (on Instagram or other places) within 30 days of the purchase for the offsite ad fee to apply. If the buyer only clicks on one of your posts the fee does NOT apply. If you have not yet done so, you might want to read https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000338367-How-Etsy-s-Offsite-Ads-Work-?segment=selling
Thanks, I've been reading some of it,
found the offsite ad section in the stats, and saw that the sale was from google,
yet, when I go to the listing and look at the view sources there were 0 from google.
@cristinasroom - The buyer can click on any offsite ad from your shop and then buy something else.
Thanks, that would explain that all the traffic sources for that item were only from within Etsy. I'll have to read and re-read the info.
