How rediculous that not replying to a spam message impacts your star rating!!
Customer service wont do anything, and now that i've deleted the message i cant report as spam.
This is beyond rediclous, there are so many spam messages atm, who has time to reply to them!!
Just send them to spam. No need to reply.
How is Etsy supposed to know it is Spam if you don't mark it that way? If it is spam, there is a SPAM button. Mark it as such, and Etsy counts it as Spam. If you don't mark it as Spam, you are telling Etsy it was a legit message you choose to ignore.
Use the tools Etsy provides, and you won't have an issue. Good luck!
Did you mark it as spam and Etsy still dinged you?
You can just reply "get lost scammer" (or even stronger language if you please) and send it to spam.

How is it ridiculous?
To qualify for the shipping badge, you must answer ALL new messages within 24hrs or mark them as spam where appropriate. Ignoring the message is NOT a valid option. It leaves an unanswered message in your feed and will count against you because you didn't meet the requirement. Mark spam messages as spam. It is that simple.
Ridiculous? Not really. Etsy provides information clearly and in depth on the Star Seller link on your seller dashboard. Click the link, read it, learn from it, and don't make the same mistake twice. As for the current spam messages, go ahead and put them in your spam folder so they don't get counted against you in the future.
@animalmeaus: "How rediculous that not replying to a spam message impacts your star rating!!" Many sellers may agree with you, but the Star Seller metric for messages is very simplistic and binary - either you replied to (or marked as SPAM) that first message of a new incoming thread within 24 hours or you did not. And apparently you intentionally choose to do neither.
As it says right on your Star Seller page and elsewhere, you need to reply to the FIRST message of EVERY NEW INCOMING THREAD within 24 hours. It does not matter who sent it, the subject matter, if it is a duplicate or blank or anything else. If it is SPAM then it should be marked as such.
"now that i've deleted the message i cant report as spam." Have you checked the trash section of your Messages page to see if it is still there? If the unanswered new thread is not a Help Request, at least for the time being, it appears that marking an unanswered new thread as SPAM (even after the 24 hour deadline has passed) will cause your reply percentage to change in a day or two (but not retroactively) if the original message was within the current star seller period. Note that subsequent messages from that account may go directly to the SPAM folder.
@animalmeaus I'm sorry you were dinged because you deleted a Spam Message/s, instead of Marking as Spam. And you're right; who the bloody H has time to get out the fly swatter and try to bat away spam Messages. I've seen Sellers post about receiving multiple spam Messages in a day. There is a seasoned Seller who reported receiving approx. 40 of them in a week. That's absurd. Unfortunately however, every Message (Spam or not Spam), requires a Response or be Marked as Spam. I'm pretty certain Etsy won't adjust your S Seller Rating however. Again, I'm sorry about that.
You should probably read through all the Star Seller information if it means that much to you. You may be in for rude awakening because it also clearly states in the program that you can lose the ability to earn the SS permanently if you break the rules, for example if you get items removed for something like infringement.
