I'm attempting to log in to my 2nd Etsy shop but am supposed to enter a 6 digit security code from a text - a text I am not receiving. I have asked it to resend a few times but nada, and there is no "not receiving the code?" button. When I try to contact Etsy, it asks me to log in before I can do so, and the whole process starts again.
Why can't you log in from your 1st shop and explain the situation? Sounds like you have 2FA enabled?
I once tried that and they told me they can't help me unless I contact them from the shop I'm writing about. But this time, logging in is the issue. I will try that again if this doesn't get sorted, though.
And are you sure that the phone you are checking is the one that Etsy is sending the code to?
Well I only have one phone so I'm pretty sure hah
When you set up 2FA, you would have had a list of 10 backup codes you could use, if you did not get the number to your mobile, or you no longer had your mobile.
You have to use one of those backup codes
that's why there is no " didn't receive code" button, as you already have 10 other backup codes you can use
I think this is a good opportunity to remind everyone with two factor authorization in their Etsy shop to make sure that they have their backup codes stored locally and they know where they are.
Good point - I don't know where my backup codes are. Actually, I do know exactly where they are - saved to a file on my computer I knocked off my table last week that now won't turn on - I just can't access them at all. I haven't checked my external drive yet, but I don't think I ever copied over that particular file.
Anyone know if there's a way to get a new set of backup codes?
@audreytherese In your account (not seller dashboard) go to Security and there is an option to regenerate and download your back up codes
Thanks!
I'm having the same problem. Etsy are proving to be useless, I keep going round in a loop with different people. Meanwhile I'm missing orders. I need to talk to someone. Is there a number to call?
@ArtScapesUK I answered you on your thread, check that
It *might* be that the code is being sent to Google Authenticator instead. My second shop (now closed) somehow started having the codes sent to Google Authenticator instead of to my phone as it happened. I have no memory of switching over to this from my phone - I partly suspect Etsy may have done it automagically at some point.
hi mate i have had the same issue and its very frustrating but i turned off my wifi and all my etsy security codes came through on mobile messages worth trying silly as it sounds.
the codes only come through, if you log in from a different device etc.
by turning the wifi off, and going in through mobile signal, etsy saw you were logging n differently, so asked for confirmation
How is the code being sent on your phone? it may be marked as sending through what-sap, email, text etc but through your phone. I have this with a paypal account I have to swap it to Text as it kept send to what-sap which I don't have. Maybe just have a check at where the code is being sent to.
@byLeighton Handmade lint remover.....?
Download the authorization app (Play store) in your phone.
When Etsy ask for the code, open at the same time the authorization app, there is the code.
SOLUTION: I had the same problem until I realized I have an Authentication App where the 6-digit code was. As soon as I opened that app the mystery was solved.
