EDIT: Etsy have already verified everything
Hello!
I'm creeping up to the $500 threshold for adding my tax information. When I opened my account in 2019 (I then moved and it was put on vacation mode until May this year) I set up my shop with my first and last name only, leaving out my middle name. When adding my SSN I saw that my ID (passport) had to match exactly so I put in a non-legal name change to add my middle name. I uploaded a clear copy of my passport and submitted. I received an email stating that Etsy will be verifying my name change and it should be done within 48 hours. However, almost instantly I received a banner in my shop stating: It looks like we couldn’t verify the recent update you made to your primary taxpayer name, so you still can’t receive funds from your sales. To get paid, you’ll need to upload a legal document (like a government-issued ID) confirming your new name. So I uploaded it again. The message didn't go away. Is this just a standard message while my ID is being verified or is Etsty not accepting my passport as a valid document?
Thanks!
I'm not sure where you changed your name but you need to add it in Finances - Tax and Legal Information to match exactly the documentation you have provided. Then scroll down to Additional Tax Information and select your country and enter your SNN there. Don't forget to click Submit.
I changed it under the primary tax payer ID information. But all is good. They verified my ID and updated my SSN.
Because Etsy adheres to the law, they need all sellers to adhere to it as well.
You need to be completely honest about all of your information. All the information you upload to Etsy MUST match your legal documents EXACTLY.
I was honest about it. Which is why I submitted a non-legal name change to have it match my ID. Anyway, it must have just been a standard message because everything got verified and my SSN was added within an hour of posting this!
@TamBeyVintage You wrote an "EDIT" at the beginning of your post. Is everything ok now?
Yes thank you
Your id has to match the bank account which has to match the tax information. Any of those not matching, Etsy pauses a shop.
You will need to use email to contact Etsy to explain the situation. If you are comfortable with this give them your phone number to call you.
If you are in a state with state ID it would be a good idea to get one. Yes passorts can be used.
Luckily Etsy verified and updated everything within an hour of posting this. I was considering using a state ID, but I'm a military spouse with a drivers license from a different state from which I live (and a different address) so I thought that would complicate things further!
