Does Etsy give buyers the right to cancel, regardless of a shop's No Cancellations policy? This is so confusing! Please help. Thank you.
Buyers can request a cancelation. It's up to you to process it or not.
Since you have a no cancellation policy, Etsy may not back you up if you refuse to cancel and go ahead and ship. You possibly could be out your money and the item also. IMHO I would rethink the no cancellation policy. It doesn't cost anything to refund, cancel and relist except some of your time. Etsy will give you all your fees back. You could put in your policies that a buyer has the right to request a cancellation within four hours of original purchase, etc. I have had some cancel within an hour or two of purchasing. Rather do this than have a case opened against me or a really disgruntled buyer.
No point selling goods to people who don’t want them. Never force a sale. Bad things may ensue. I allow people to cancel as long as I haven’t shipped and the item is not personalized for them specifically.
I've found accepting cancellations has been positive for my business. These are honored within a given period of time which is written in my policies. It's rare, but sometimes a person needs to cancel an order. I've had customers come back and become repeat buyers after doing so. We may never know why a person needs to cancel an order......There may be a very needed and expected reason to do so. I'm not sure if Etsy will back a none canceled order? I am sure payment processors policies take precedence over a shop owners unless there are particular circumstances such as a custom order. I hope this helps.
If I haven't shipped yet, I'd rather cancel an order than have a buyer unhappy with their item. If I have shipped, it becomes a bigger deal but I still try to work with them...
So true @NancyQstudio I’ve had two people who cancelled and later game back to buy again. One of them has become a very good customer.
The two worst deterrents to successful online selling - no returns and no cancellations.
Sometimes things just don't work for the buyer AND
Sometimes people change their minds.
Best to accommodate.
