Ive literally just set up my shop and have received 2 orders immediately.
Both buyers have messaged me asking for my email address which I provided them with but not sure why I need to do this??
One buyer has said he has paid so I checked and its asking me to enter my payment details?? Why, I entered these when I set up the shop.
Sorry just a bit confused by this, I thought this was going to be easy but if I am constantly getting messages requesting my email thats going to be a real pain.
Any help advice please.
Thank you
They are scam messages to obtain your Etsy login details. It sounds as if you visited the links the scammers sent to you by the email address you provided them, I hope you did not log in, if you did, I suggest you change your Etsy password quickly. I would also run a malware and virus scan, Malwarebytes is free and a very good malware scanner.
Buyers do not need your email address to complete the sale, as Etsy already has those, and as you know, your bank/card details. The scammers are targeting new sellers, as they think they will fall for it. If you get any more, ignore them, mark them as spam and if you wish to, report it and the users to Etsy, via Etsy help.

Mark as spam! they are targeting new shops. DO NOT REPLY!
I thought that, thank you
Sorry @LoveGolfLoveLife they are not orders they are Scams, please mark as Spam and do not engage with them.
It's not just new shops I got 3 today after renewing some listings

The incredible thing about these types of scams is that Etsy is doing absolutely nothing to inform sellers about them. A message on the Shop Manager Dashboard would put sellers on alert.
Yes, SCAMS. If you truly had a sale it would show on your dashboard.
Do not respond at all. They want your email, they then send you a fake email that looks like it's from etsy support and they ask for bank or cc details.
Sales happen seamlessly, so nothing like this would ever happen.
Yes I kinda guessed it was a scam. thank you
Sorry this has happened to you but it's a scam. Loads of new sellers have been caught out. If it's not already clear - do not give them your payment card details (as you said, your bank is already set up). If you have already you will need to contact your bank immediately and cancel your payment card.
No I did not give any details as I had my suspicions. thank you
I hope all these new folks are coming back to check for replies and are not giving out sensitive information!
@ThePurplePuppy Wonder if I'll get one of those scammers when I start adding items after being empty for about 4 months. They would not be happy with my response, lol
I would love to "play" with these people but we never know who/where they are and since I truly believe they are organized crime I am a bit afraid to.
@ThePurplePuppy Ditto. I have a smart mouth and I use it. Much to the chagrin of all my exes.
LOL (snort)
I have made new listings in two shops, both have renewals too. I have no scam messages and I want to respond. is it because I'm in Canada?

@LoveGolfLoveLife You say: "Both buyers have messaged me asking for my email address which I provided them with "
If you are receiving messages that do not have the "E" Etsy logo then it is not Etsy. Don't reply but be sure to mark the message as Spam so it does not affect (lower) the message percentage of your Star Seller stats. Hopefully, one day Etsy will place a banner in seller shops about this. Seems like it's happening more frequently.
Hello, I opened my shop a year ago, and all I've been getting are these spam messages. I know it's sad, but what do real messages and orders look like?
@ArtisanShopCC Any new orders always appear in your shop dashboard and under "orders", and they will normally have the number of orders in a red circle (turns grey when the orders page is viewed).
Real messages could be from genuine potential buyers with a question, or buyers who may have an issue with their order; these are labelled under messages as "order help requests".
I hope you have marked those spam/scam messages you have been receiving as spam and not engaged with them.
Any genuine message from Etsy will be under the "From Etsy" tab (only visible when using a browser, not the mobile app).
And as you have replied to a thread that is over 2 years old, it will be locked by a moderator.
Hello @ArtisanShopCC ,
Etsy is actively engaged in preventing scammers from targeting our community members. If you receive a suspicious message, please proceed with caution, and do not click on any suspicious email links. Etsy Support will never ask you to provide personal information via Etsy Messages, such as your email address or password. Any legitimate message from us will show in your "From Etsy" folder.
If you receive a suspicious message, here’s how to report it:
You’ll find examples of common scammer techniques and phishing messages here in our Help Center. Read our Account Security Checklist Help Center Article for more steps you can take to protect your account.
Scammers tend to target new shops.

If you receive an actual order, you will see it in your "Orders and Shipping" section and you will receive an email from Etsy notifying you that you have a sale, and there will be a notification in your dashboard as well.
