Sigh. I tried to use the new form since the old one will disappear soon. I made some edits to a current draft and the only options I am given is to either preview or list the item. I can not save my changes to draft. So my changes were all lost because I am not ready to list it yet. Wish Etsy would get it together and stop wasting my time. smh
Hello!

That keeps happening to me too. I switched back to the old form and it works just fine.
Yeh. That's what I've been doing. But what will happen when the old form disappears?
It's a free-fall now. No fixes to the new form and no more old form. After 14 years I may have to close my shop.
It's a workaround and not a very satisfactory one but I've found that renewing items that have expired or sold out that I want to refresh either because I've retired the design or have re-done it with updated info, I have to publish it as it to make the changes stick. Then deactivate it, clear up the Etsy whoops stuff and activate it. And even then about 20% revert back to the original price. Annoying.
I plan on listing anyway so the 0.20 is moot but it's a real pin in the butt.
Also found that if you take an older listing and refresh and renew, it does not go to the "new items" sorting if that is what you use. I do since I've never understood taking the time to carefully arrange things. Buyers rarely enter through the front door. We sellers do : ). It sort of wants to go back to where it was when it was deactivated. I'll admit that I had deactivated a particular item that was too close to someone else's product so I reworked it into something else but used the old listing. I think that may be why.
I'm used to the new form but still don't like it. Too much scrolling. I used to love the feature where inputting tags, you could see the title without having to go all the way back down to the bottom. I am neurodivergent and while most things can make sense to me, that is one that does not. It's time suck.
Variations are a whole other can of squiggly worms. The single most used feature in my shop so I'm still wrapping my brain around why it's so difficult when before it was super easy to use.
And just as an aside to keep an eye on, I sell mostly personalized items and have a no return policy on them. Ready made or simply made to order, I have refund policies on those. I was recently freshening up my shop and categories by low performing category sections and EVERY single one of them had a 7 days return policy attached to it despite me having set it as no returns due to it's personalized nature.
I was only made aware of this as a client wanted to send back an order where she bought the wrong size. It was personalized with a few custom changes. I didn't accept the return and figured let the chips fall where they land but it got me into looking and low and behold, most of my personalized items ALSO had returns accepted. Which they are most certainly not. Unpersonalized, sure, there is no reason to not accept returns and I do, though I've never had one.
The new listing form is a head scratcher. It's not improved, but other than the weird set up for variations, that I use a lot of, and the strange back and forth to get to certain sections, it's serviceable. Mostly.
I've rolled with a lot of changes since I started selling online when AOL was the only game in town so I've weathered many changes across the internet as it grew up but those changes/challenges at Etsy are so frequent it's like a merry go round!
I suspect we'll all (grudgingly) get used to it like we did the last time they revamped. At the very least, it's not several pages long so that a check in the plus column.
Seems it is much more of a hassle for vintage sellers whose packages vary in size and weight. I use shipping profiles since I've been doing this long enough to know where I may have a bit left over for self-insurance or have to kick in a bit because the order is larger than usual. It averages out.
And finally, my biggest gripe. New listings aren't shown right away. It could take anywhere from 15 min to hours. I used to be able to list something, it'd show right away and typically got a sale fairly quickly on same. Not so anymore.
Wondering if this is their way of scouring the millions of items listed for infractions and stopping them before they pass go. Just a tin-foil theory.
That was a lot of words to suggest activating the listing you are working on, deactivate it quickly, finish what you started and then publish. : )
Workarounds suck lemons but that's the name of the Etsy game, they play and we scramble to adjust.
Until they change it all again!
>Variations are a whole other can of squiggly worms. The single most used feature in my shop so I'm still wrapping my brain around why it's so difficult when before it was super easy to use.
YES! I was hopeful that since variations worked so well (one of their good additions for us sellers) they would implement a shipping version as well. Now I don't know if I want to tackle whatever mess that would look like even though it would mean I didn't need to edit a few hundred listings "if" USPS raises rates again this year.
And if you don't want to publish it right away but save it to list later? I do a lot in draft to work on later. Right now, I can't do that. I'm not paying upfront and starting the clock for something that's not ready to list! That's what drafts are for!
I have a new listing that I created a few hours ago and I cannot save it. I get an error message saying try again later which I did, but nope, no luck. Same error message pops up. I don't want to have to do this listing all over again. I used the new listing form for this. What's going on? Hoping this is going to be fixed quickly.
@LookBackVintage I had the same problem last night. I solved it by copy/pasting my title, desc and tags into a notepad so I didn't lose it, then switching back to the old form. I was then told it was my alt text which was the issue - too many puncuation marks LOL I simplified it, then - still using the old form - I was able to publish.
Why, after a YEAR, are sellers having to find "workarounds" when this thing is going mandatory in 8 days? With all the glitches still going on? All the time wasted going on?
And the workarounds are all "go back to the old form" as far as things working.
Anyone try to create a listing with variations? It's impossible, it doesn't work, and according to another thread that I posted on etsy is aware of this and they still have not fixed it.
Again, after a year. This is pathetic. And I see that they're closing threads where there are complaints. Nice.
i can't help but wonder if they're going to announce an alternate listing form that has all the old familiar things.... but with like a $15/month membership fee or something
I eagerly opened the admin post with the update from June 14 with my fingers crossed that they were delaying the cessation of the functional form in favor of the new one.
Instead, I gritted my teeth reading the Etsy speak and the fact that they're hoping to fix the renewing sold out listings feature within a week. Not like any of us use that regularly so seems like cutting it a little close but what do I know?
Really.
SOLD OUT means people are buying something, right?
Etsy's response isn't to put a BESTSELLER on it. Etsy's response is to make it impossible to make more of that thing and list it to sell.
Just effing brilliant.
I don't even care about a bestseller badge or any of the others. I simply want to be able to maintain and listing my items which is surprisingly very difficult to do these days.
@GreatStuff80 Hi, Can I make a suggestion. I have never used Save as Draft (even with the Old Listing Form). What worked for me, make the listing "live". Then Deactivate it and make all of your edits. I haven't used the New Listing Form, but I hope this works for you.
Beware as I believe once you push that live, it starts the clock ticking on your listing fee/expiration date even if deactivated. If you were planning on listing immediately, it wouldn't be a big deal but I know some people who like to bank a bunch of listings at once and that could throw things off.
As soon as you make the listing live, you get charged for it and the cook starts ticking on the 4 months. Why would I want to do that? I sometimes do drafts months ahead to prepare for holidays and won't list it for some time.
This has been fixed. Thanks for the reports!
hahaha I just tried an edit on a draft. Unless I do a big change, like photos or shipping type, it still would NOT save a simple thing like a text edit!!
Nothing has been fixed. Why do you keep repeating this on all of the discussions? The new form is BROKEN.

This is not fixed - I continue to have the same issues. No emptying my cache, or logging out and back in, or updating my browser is fixing it. The issue has persisted for weeks, and at least before we could simply try the old listing form to load a new listing, now can not even do that. So I am properly stuck, and NOBODY is even replying on the support chat. Good times, Etsy. Thanks
I have been trying for several hours to save a draft listing. All I get is the dreaded red banner. How can I sell from my shop when I can't even post a listing. I tried reaching etsy via chat but to no avail. Any ideas would be welcome. Never had this problem with the old listing format which I presume no longer exists.
Mine is doing it too today.
It is not fixed. I’ve wasted 4 hours editing a new post only to hit save and see the original listing I copied. Same thing happens when trying to reorder photos. I don’t see any answers except that this problem is fixed. Please do something about this. I don’t have 5 hours to spend on a single post!
