Hi all,
When i found out we can add New Sustainability Attributes, i was like "YEAH!" and i wanted to add that directly to my listings.
But,
no attribute for my "locally tanned leather" bracelets and necklaces.
Finally i found one of the best leather you can imagine: Local. Not mass production. As original as it can be. But i can not add this.
Is there maybe another way to add this in the future Etsy? Maybe with "add more"?
This is also a bit of a feedback to Etsy
Ouch this hurts, but I have the same problem with another material, cotton. I can´t add recycled cotton which I partly use for my work. I was also "YEAH" when I read about it and was very disappointed that I couldn´t add it. Sustainability is such a big thing so I hope Etsy will enlarge the list of materials.
That's an interesting one. Many people would consider leather to be unsustainable full stop, so that could open a can or worms and distract from what I assume is Etsy's goal of focusing on the obvious and easy to categorise elements of sustainability.
I hear you
Oh I get your point absolutely. I guess the issue is how/where would you draw the line at what is or isn't sustainable leather?
Well, I think "cheap" mass production of leather from low wage countries, whether or not child labour, is not sustainable. Here i think mass production is in my opinion not sustainable. I, for example, use natural products to tan my leather. I do not know what they use for tan in mass products.
