Sorry if this has been discussed-
I just noticed a new Star Seller box under all my listings under the photos. The box says "This shop is a Star Seller 100% Recommend their items, Five Star Reviews 96%.
But, on my Home Page and Stats it shows Perfect Score on all metrics, 5.0 average rating
And on the Etsy App it shows 187 Five Star, 2 Four Star
Anyone else have different numbers? I contacted Etsy but still waiting for an email back since tech could not figure it out.

This is part of the star seller data, but these ratings are given via the shop reviews. Shop reviews take the previous year into account, while star seller takes the previous three months into account.
Different time periods, I’m guessing.

Thank you for responding! That makes more sense. I'm not sure why they would use 2 different metrics, confusing for buyer and seller.
I don't think this has been discussed before, in fact I think it is brand new.
The first thing I noticed was the hover text on the left hand side over "This shop is a star seller"
What's a Star Seller?
This seller consistently:
Shining service like this is a big deal—fewer than 5% of all sellers qualify for this special badge!
We have never seen this 5% claim before and I don't believe it is correct.
I tried several searches using specific keywords, to make sure there were less than 1,000+ results. Then I went to All Filters and selected Star Seller. For each search, the Star Seller filter yielded approx. 50% of the number in the original results.
@DaysofYoreTreasures 5% of all shops ever created and not closed using the close shop function, is my bet.
Not 5% of all active sellers.
There's an ongoing thread about it, if anyone wants to check it out:

in other words an example of using metrics to spin a story
a lot of shops ever created were before star seller was even a thing, some are in countries where tracked shipping isn't an option or at least a viable one, and there are a huge number of shops that sell downloads ... and will never get the smooth shipping badge. And new shops are excluded for 90 days. And shops that make occasional sales are excluded because of the number of sales in the period/$300 thing.
you've made me curious ... what is Etsy using to calculate this.
So Etsy is promoting star seller as a very special attribute ... but it could be interpreted as 'only 5% of Etsy sellers are really good'
