Yikes! I just got a notice that the NEW upgrade on the Etsy app that is REQUIRED for download is now LIMITED to IOS 17.0???
Etsy, why on earth would you limit accessibility for Buyers to the Etsy app? Everyone in the universe does not have the latest and greatest smart phone, much less with some of the older models that are still perfectly performing, can't upgrde to the newest, latest and greatest IOS!??
That's not the point, my dear... the point is ALL of those Etsy Buyers out there that don't have a phone that "automatically" updates, much less CAN update to 17.0! This makes it impossible for a lot of Buyers to even get to the Etsy app!
My iPhone buyer app doesn't give any notice of a required update. That notice might not actually mean that the update is necessary in order to use the app, it might infer that an update is necessary if you want all of the features to work "as expected." Doesn't sound like older versions of the app are rendered useless. My buyer app seems to be working fine with no update.
Yes, that is what the notice clearly says(in Etsy's form of clarity)...all parts may not work as expected, so an update is necessary (for those parts).
I just installed Etsy Seller on an old iPhone on IOS 16 and I got a notice saying it would install the last compatible version. Then there was a scary notice from Etsy when I opened the app but I just dismissed the warning and proceeded to the app. Seems pretty functional.
I honestly do not see what the big deal is.. heck half the people who might use the etsy app probably do not even have an iPhone. And lots of us who do— we just use auto updates. And those that don’t, update when they can OR they do not use the Etsy buyer or seller app because IMO they are full of issues and don’t work as well as Etsy wants us to believe. Likely those people who don’t auto update would get the same notice you see and update at that point if they want to use the Etsy app.
Check your own stats.. Most of my customers do NOT come thru the app..if yours do— then they will update when they want to. IF they have an iPhone.
I agree, why would Etsy not at least allow access to their site on the old buyer app. My seller app is still fine but on my older iPad which isn’t that old, I cannot access Etsy anymore in the buyer app. Which means anyone with and older iPhone or iPad that can’t update to the newer IOS, won’t be using the app to go to our shops anymore if the app doesn’t work. Etsy has to be losing money on this as well as all the sellers. Sure, they can still go to the website but how many won’t bother after the app fails? Huge over-site in my opinion. Is their stock doing that well to eliminate potential buyers?
