My Made to Order Digital Downloads are showing “ship by” dates

All of my items are digital and they’re all listed as digital downloads. I do not ship physical items at all. Thursday I got an order and it says it needs to ship by October 21 (which isn’t within my processing time since all of my branding services are custom) and also, it says my customer selected standard shipping.

I reached out to Etsy Friday and they said it’s a “known issue” and that there’s nothing they can do about it on their end. They said I could cancel the order and have my client re-purchase.

I’m glad I didn’t follow this advice because yesterday I had two more sales (a new customer with two separate projects) and both of her orders are showing ship by dates as October 22! This isn’t at all possible—my projects take between 2-3 weeks and it’s posted all throughout my shop. That is to say that even if I’d had my customer from Thursday re-purchase her listing, it would have STILL shown up as a physical item with a ship by date.

When I chatted with Etsy on Friday, I asked if not “shipping” this order on time would affect my shop’s customer service stats, and I was told that unfortunately yes, failing to ship this order would affect my stats.

So what do I do? I haven’t changed anything in my shop or listings that should have caused this to happen THREE TIMES in two days, and Etsy admits it’s a glitch/technical issue.

My shop has never offered shipping because my listings have always been digital downloads. I’m so frustrated and confused. I did some more research and everything I’ve found states that “made to order digital downloads do not have shipping dates.”
