Money lost?

Hello! Please i need help!

I created an account on the etsy.com platform, with the intention of selling products. A customer bought a product of mine, but I got an automated message that I need to build revolut in order to complete the customer's purchase. They then told me that I have to put 300euros minimum, so that the transaction can be done and that it would be confirmed by push notification. When I pressed confirm, the money was removed from the app. This happened twice because I was told that the identification was not done correctly.

Re: Money lost?

You've been scammed.

You don't need to confirm anything to get payment. you don't need to provide email address, bank details, create revolut accounts or buy gift cards.

An order is only an order when it's in your Orders and Shipping page of your etsy shop manager. Buyer pays etsy, you get the order.

Everything else is a scam.

Re: Money lost?

I'm pretty sure that was a scam message.

Re: Money lost?

You've been scammed I'm afraid.  All Etsy orders are completed on Etsy - you will never be asked for your email or a deposit or anything else. You have no sales, so you need to check your bank account and if money has been taken, you need to report it to your local crime agency.  Change your passwords, run a virus check on all your devices and set up 2FA.

Re: Money lost?

Yes, sadly it seems you have been scammed - new sellers seem to be a target as the scammers think they will fall for their schemes.

Re: Money lost?

Unfortunately this appears to be a scam (not by Etsy). No funds are required to be sent to Etsy to complete a sale on this platform.

Re: Money lost?

I don't think revolute refund, but open your app and click contact, you will get a live agent on the app almost instantly.

They will at least be able to trace where that money went to and hopefully be able to freeze the accounts

Re: Money lost?

Talk with your bank for a possible stop payment or if it went on your credit card you could do a charge back.

Contact your credit card or bank immediately.

Re: Money lost?

So sorry this has happened to you.  In the future:

  1. Buyers do not need your email to complete a purchase
  2. Any real orders will appear on your shop dashboard, and the money will show in your shop payment account
  3. Etsy already has your email, bank account, and credit card info
  4. If Etsy needs anything changed, checked or verified, they will NOT send you a link to do it.  They will refer you back to your shop dashboard.  Most requests for information will also appear on your shop dashboard.

Good luck.

Re: Money lost?

Etsy has access to our conversations, and AI. A new message triggers a blue notice that a reply is needed. Is it really so hard to trigger a message review when a blue message contains the word or words "email", "e-mail", or "e mail" along with a list of several other triggers like "revolut" or "paypal" or "identification" or "ID". It almost never takes more than reading a sentence regarding these issues to know someone's being scammed, it should be just as easy for support to see in the actual messages and do "something" about these problems.

If Etsy actually did more to enforce policies all these years maybe it wouldn't be such a safe haven for scammers, etys reputation is known as an easy place to get rich with copyright infringement, to slap stock images on products and call them handmade, to mark something vintage with 2021 in the title, to scam sellers out of products and refunds because the way Etsy help and case systems run by bots, to dropship cheap crap from ali b/x, shein, Amazon, eBay, etc etc etc. Seems like the biggest risk of all that gets punished the most is trying to run an honest shop on Etsy and getting punished with reserve "in error" or shut down "in error" or de-indexed "in error" or listings shadow banned without notice or indication what's causing it, or put on reserve because you got a surge in sales (punished for growing), or lost star seller because you didn't ship things on a federal holiday, lose money over issues that could have been resolved by not hiding the description, bad reviews because Etsy puts false shipping origins using shop location as the ships from location ignoring shipping profiles, etc etc etc.

Re: Money lost?

@VibeEnvy  Etsy has been using software to catch those messages, and the scammers adapt messages and spellings like "emaill" or "e-address", or "emmail", etc. until they get their messages through. They also hack legit Etsy accounts to get past screeners, And the scammers also employ bots and AI to get past filters.

The messages with money requests aren't sent through Etsy.  They are sent directly to the seller's email, which the seller just handed over to the thieves.  They are faked to look like Etsy, they have Etsy's logo and such, but come from outside.  All this is fairly easy to do, including creating a spoofed Etsy webpage.

I agree with you on the other stuff.

Re: Money lost?

@bradgoodell it would be easy to target any variations of that word.

That said, in this day and time, I am dumbfounded that anyone who considers themselves savvy enough to sell online, fall for these scams.

To be asked to send money to anyone, unless you are purchasing something, is the big red signal for ALL scams. Why do people do it?

Re: Money lost?

This is not the first time I have heard them use revolute for the payment. Your money is gone if you sent the scammers money via revolute, there is no contacting banks or card companies, she has to contact revolute via the app and give them all the details to warn them and others and maybe they can block the accounts these funds are being directed to.

Re: Money lost?

The money transferred to a Bunq B.v and Revolut answered me that:

The transactions you told us you don't recognize were authenticated by a device where you've added your card to Apple or Google Pay.

As the device is still in your possession and you have not shared the security details with third parties, the transaction cannot be considered unauthorized.

Re: Money lost?

Well no. YOU DID authorise the payments. You said yourself in the OP that you set up a Revolute account and paid not only one amount of 300€ into it, but a second. You can’t claim you don’t recognise the transactions, because you instigated them, albeit on the sayso of a third party. But that’s why they are scammers, they set you up to make it look like it’s all come from you, and their hands are clean (and full of your 600€ I’m afraid).
