Dear Community,
I can't send mails and get the message "Oh dear, your messages have been temporarily deactivated. Please contact the support team to have them reactivated. Please also check the FAQ and Community Guidelines for more information on the messaging system."
I have already contacted the support team 2 times, but no answer for 1 week.
The stupid thing is, I had my first orders today and can't send any mails.
Can you perhaps help me or have a tip for me?
Thank you in advance and best regards!
You can send the buyers emails.
Unfortunately not. Same error message.
I was able to answer to one Buyer, but than it was blocked and same message.
The etsy support is not answering. They get so much fees, do you know, if there is a support or what i can do?
Emails are external to Etsy.
Etsy can't block them.

Did you try sending an email, or did you just re-try sending a message in the Etsy app/site? Your buyer's email address is provided in the order (click the down arrow next to their name). Etsy cannot prevent you from emailing.
Yes, I tried sending via the app/web interface, which didn't work.
Thanks for the tip. I see the mail, that should work.
But is that normal from etsy?
Have you been sending people messages prior to this happening?
The only reason I've heard of people getting that message is If they were using Etsy messages to send unsolicited messages. It's like a time-out for sellers who do that. I'm not sure how long the time-out is. The Etsy time-outs I'm aware of are a day or 3 or something like that.
If it's an error, use Help to chat with support and ask them how to get out of an erroneous time-out.
Yes, more than 4-5 Mails over the etsy mail form for sellers.
Thank you for your message. But I have sent a spam message, always my own texts and individually.
I didn't know you could chat with them? I am from Europe, Germany, no chat function is offered. Can you briefly tell me how to access this function?
Thank you very much

If you send messages to people who favourite your items or add them to their carts, without an actual sale in progress, or specific permission from them to make contact, this is considered spam, and can see you lose you your message privileges. It can last for a few days or a few weeks, depending on the extent of the activity. Etsy has targeted contact processes for favourites and abandoned carts, which buyers have the option to subscribe to or not. Only Etsy knows who is subscribed, and only Etsy is allowed to send these messages. You can set these up on your shop page under Marketing, and when someone who is subscribed to receive these messages likes or carts one of your items Etsy will send them a message with a discount (which you set) to encourage them to revisit and buy.
To message buyer if Etsy messages isn't working, copy their email address from the order and go into your email (not Etsy messages) and email them. Fingers crossed it doesn't go to their spam. Normally Etsy disables Etsy messages if Etsy thinks you are reaching out to people who favor your items or messaging too many people but recently due to their efforts to limit the Scammers I have heard that messages were affected so it could be that also.
Thanks for the tip. Yes, I hope it doesn't end up in spam
It sounds, from what you’ve said, that you sent messages to people who were not buyers. That is not allowed (and is illegal in most countries). You will have to wait until Etsy lifts your ban.
Right, I wrote to sellers because I liked their products. Am I not allowed to write to other sellers?
@ZwaytShop You can message sellers if it involves a purchase you made from them. You can also message them if you need to ask them about an item you'd like to purchase. Sending a message just because you liked their items is unusual.
Depending on what you wrote, those sellers probably considered your messages spam and put it in their spam folders so it wouldn't affect the star seller badges.
Next time you admire another seller's products, just click the heart on the listing to favorite it.
you should only write to them, if you have a question before purchasing, that you are unsure about, before you buy,
the message should be about a transaction you have made, or hoping to make, you shouldn't just write,
If any of them thought your messages were spam,, and marked them as such , you will be banned from messaging
just don't do it
You have your own privacy policy - you should read it
Thank you very much for the information! I hadn't been aware of that. I was just wondering whether we could cooperate. That was probably a bit naive of me.
But these messages are already at least 20 months old.
I can understand it now, however, as I have now posted articles myself and always receive actual spam messages.
How long does such a ban last?
@ZwaytShop: Not to discount the fact that your messaging may have been disabled in error, generally it is because the system has detected that your account has been sending unsolicited non-transactional messages. The most common infraction seems to be Messaging people who have favorited a shop's listing.
There does not appear to be a published time for how long messaging is muted and based on posts in this forum it can vary.
Again based on other posts, Etsy does not seem to view support requests based on what appear to be user violations as a priority.
If the Message muting is in error, one of the Etsy Admins has been able, in several cases, to restore messaging. Hopefully they will see your thread and will check into it for you.
Many Thanks for your message. I hope the best.
