Hello.....
I cannot seem to find the right help in the "help center" so I will ask here. I was communicating with a potential customer yesterday through this afternoon. At a point in the conversation between the customer and myself a notification of a new message came in through my e-mail, however when I went to my Etsy conversations to view...the new message was not there....just the previous messages. Since I saw the message in my e-mail I addressed the question the customer had in Etsy conversations anyway. The New message never showed up in the Etsy conversation until now and is saying it came in 9 hours ago (which it did on my e-mail, but not on Etsy) BUT now the whole previous conversation thread (several back and forth messages) is gone and this new message is all that remains and I am now being told this is the first contact with this customer, which it is not. If I don't reply to this message now I will get dinged. I have already addressed this message hours ago.
I don't have any record now of our previous messages.....where did they go and is there a way of getting them back into my Etsy conversations.
Thanks
First check in spam folder. Etsy has moved to spam several of my on going message threads on their own. Reply to the message or send to spam within 24 hrs. . Explain to sender if justified.
Sounds like you may have been talking with a scammer. They may have come to Etsy's notice through reports from other sellers, or just based on the number of messages being sent at a time. Scammers will send as many as they can before one account gets closed, then move on to the next batch with a new account.
If it were me, I would check the spam folder and if you find the message there, it is probably a good sign that the buyer was a spammer. Mark the new message as spam and move on, you dodged a bullet.
Thank you so much to both...that's where the messages are...the spam folder. I knew something seemed off in the conversation with this, now I know to be a scammer.
same thing happened to me yesterday. It was very weird. I wouldn't assume that the person is a scammer unless you have a reason to assume that. The message that I had this happen on wasn't anything suspicious so sometimes messages that are completely fine get flagged by etsy and sent to spam.
If you feel like the message was suspicious then etsy could have been correct to do this but just because etsy sent it to spam doesn't mean they are a scammer.
