Message response issue

I had a message from another shop owner regarding an item I had bought just a auto "thanks for shopping with us" but it went into my shop convos and since I didn't reply, because it wasn't from a person asking my shop a question now it counts against my star seller?  Seems like a glitch and is there a fix?

I have gotten spam from other sellers promoting their business and didn't want to respond, but knew if I didn't that I would be docked for not responding. This really isn't right and their should be a way to fix it, but I doubt there is. So are you and the seller supposed to keep going back and forth forever so you don't both get deducted for the star seller thing? It doesn't seem to make a difference in my shop on the star seller thing anyway, I get the same number of sales either way.
