Message from etsy ?

Jump to solution

Hi all,

I'm a new seller, I've done eBay a few times decided to start on Etsy.

I have a message in the message section of sellers dashboard, says Etsy support saying congratulations your item has been purchased, it says the buyers name, the date, and where is is shipped to, it does not show me the item, it just has an order number, it says under at the bottom of the message, what should I do now

Congratulations! Your item has been purchased

Order number: (blank for data protection)
Date of purchase: 05.10.2023
Buyer: (blank for data protection)
Delivery to: (blank for data protection)

What should I do now?

You must send your email in this chat. You will receive an emаiI from Etsy.

There is a reply box under it, when I write a reply saying ok great thank you, but when I look in my orders section there is nothing there, it wont let me send the message reply and says The username you have entered is not a valid Etsy user.

also when I look on orders and deliverys section, there is nothing there. no orders, I am confused as the message has the etsy icon, and it says from etsy support.

There are so many red flags here, and it's definitely a SCAM. Do not engage in any way. That is not how etsy works AT ALL.

First, they are asking for your email. Etsy already has your email. Then the order date is rendered in a non-US way (05/10/2023).

When it says they are not a valid etsy user, it's because etsy already detected the SCAM and deleted their account.

@InspiredBoutiqueArt  Don't do it!  They want you to click the email so you can give credit card information, and they can steal from you.

Don't do it!
When you do send your email to this chat, they will send you to a FAKE Etsy site, Chat or support to login and give them your bank/CC info.

You only get paid through etsy payments and etsy sends the funds to your bank account. This is the only way you get paid.

The scammers might tell you that Etsy has a new payment system, or it's being upgraded. It's ALL a lie.

Etsy would NEVER ask you to do this, NEVER!

I'm so sorry this is your experience as a new Seller.  There has been an infestation of these thugs. Do not engage, do not click any links; and Mark all Messages as Spam. A Buyer will never need your email to make a purchase. These scammers are also impersonating Etsy Support. Here is an Announcement re: scams.  Unfortunately you have to dig to find it (under Past Announcements).  There needs to be a prominent Warning in every Seller's Dashboard.  These scammers aren't letting up, and many Sellers have been ripped off by them. Stay safe.

@InspiredBoutiqueArt  Above you stated it said, "You must send your email in this chat. You will receive an emаiI from Etsy."

That doesn't happen. It's a FAKE Chat.  Don't engage.

@ChillwolfArt
Maybe it's me but it sure seems in the last week, there's A LOT more posts about sellers almost getting scammed or that have gotten scammed.

Maybe more sellers are posting about it than before?
Maybe the scammers are targeting even more sellers (and buyers for that matter by contacting them through the reviews the buyer has left).

@vintageNCtreasures  Definitely. And much of it seems to occur immediately after they open, when new Sellers are listing their first items.  This is ridiculous, and I can see how they could be taken in.  You're not familiar with what to expect when there is a legit sale, then you get targeted by scammers. Not to mention those impersonating Etsy Support, telling Sellers they need Verification of Accounts (when Re-Verification has been going on recently).

And if that wasn't enough, they're targeting Buyers through Reviews, etc.  There is absolutely NO reason not to put a prominent Warning in every Seller's Dashboard. Seller's see it right when they open Shop.

SCAM!! DO NOT reply.
@InspiredBoutiqueArt
Please read the info on the links I posted before you get scammed out of your money.

Glad you looked on the order page and saw you had NO orders.  If you did have an order it would be on your order page.

These scammers will send you to a FAKE etsy site so you can enter your bank account/credit card #'s so they can STEAL money from you.
They'll tell you in order to get paid for this item, you have to pay $100's of dollars to be verified to get payments.
All a lie!

100's of posts about these scams.

That email address is NOT Etsy's.
Etsy nor the buyer needs your email.
Etsy has it, the buyer does not need it.

If the user account is NOT there, then etsy deleted that account because it was a scam.

Re: Message from etsy ?

yeah i would never give my email, the way I read it wasnt like they were asking for my email address, I thought it meant to just reply to etsy through the message, not to give my email address, the the red box etsy site shows doesnt say its there user, it just says the username, etsy should maybe re-write that sentence as I thought it meant me, and my username wasnt working lol,  yeah I will flag it as a spam scam, thank you for your help, btw i'm in the UK so if I get an order from anywhere in the world, will the date be written as US 10/05/2023

@InspiredBoutiqueArt  You said in your OP: " but when I look in my orders section there is nothing there, it wont let me send the message reply and says The username you have entered is not a valid Etsy user."

OK--the reason there is nothing in your order section is because you HAVE NO ORDER! IT IS A SCAM!  The reason you cannot reply is because Etsy has already found the scammer and DELETED their account.

You can do as everyone is advising--or do as @nineteen27  says and have your bank account emptied and your CC maxed out!

Re: Message from etsy ?

yes true, I know, but when I or someone writes a reply it says "The username you have entered is not a valid Etsy user." in context that would sujest my username, as I didnt enter anything, I think Etsy should re-write that phase to, the username you are contacting is not a valid Etsy user, this is there the confusion is, but thank you, It is flaggd as scam, and im not stuppid to ever give my email address out, or pay money as im a seller not a buyer. it was mainly the red box from Etsy on when I tried to reply, not with my email address, The username you have entered is not a valid Etsy user." I didnt enter any user, Etsy should redesign that part as it is not correct context.

@InspiredBoutiqueArt
When you reply to a message on etsy, you don't have to enter a "user" name to send a message, it's already there.

The info is not about your user name because it's valid, it's the user name the scammer used.

Just like on an email, if you reply to someone their email is already there, you don't have to enter it.

@InspiredBoutiqueArt

I get what you are saying. The wording used sounds like Etsy is saying your username is not valid which would confuse the heck out of me too.

Etsy has never been good about being clear about anything. You could try contacting them to suggest that it be re-worded, however, you may not get them to understand what you are trying to say.

I think you're overthinking this.

Yes, it could be reworded (as many things on Etsy could be), but the most important takeaway here is that this was not an order, but a scam attempt to rob you.

If you get an actual order, it will appear in the orders tab of your dashboard. It will be a little 1 (or 2 or 3 or however many unshipped orders you have currently). It's easy to spot because that number will not go away until the order is marked as shipped.

Etsy will never ask for your email

Etsy will never ask for your bank account number AND BALANCE!! to complete an order you receive.

Take the advice in this thread from seasoned sellers. Take care, and good luck!
