I received a ding on a message from someone I purchased something from on Etsy who wasn't a customer. I got dinged as a no response within 24 hours for this. I did respond with a very thoughtful response a little over 24 hours because I didn't think these counted against us for our star seller rating but they do...and they shouldn't.
Read the star seller criteria, all messages must be responded to or marked as spam. No one is reading the messages
Hi, How the Star Seller Metrics works, is any Message where you are not the initiator, must be Responded to or Marked as Spam. I've always used the same account for both Buying and Selling (since 2011). And I receive Thank You Messages from the Seller I purchased from. I'll reply, "Thanks", or something thereof. So nothing changed on that end.
For future, you may one day receive a Message from another Seller whom you are friendly with ("How's it going"? for example). That still counts as needing a Response or Mark as Spam.
Hope this helps.
If you read the star seller information it clearly states>>>>>
Etsy can not distinguish between a customer sending you a message or a buyer sending you a message.
@204TeesAndMore: "... I didn't think these counted against us ..." As it says right on your Star Seller page and elsewhere, you need to reply to the FIRST message of EVERY NEW INCOMING THREAD within 24 hours. It does not matter who sent it, the subject matter, if it is a duplicate or blank or anything else. If it is SPAM then it should be marked as such.
Sorry, you aren't the first one to discover this.
And it's been three years now, I doubt Etsy is going to change this anytime soon.
Unfortunately you made an assumption and it turned out to be wrong. I know it's hard not to make them but they are problematic because they are frequently incorrect.
The good news is you can get your score back up by following the rules. Be sure to read them so you understand how it works.
All messages have to be replied to or spammed
well, they are now being spammed for us
I only had 2 messages marked as spam which should not have been, it's been quiet on that front for more than a week now, perhaps Etsy has tweaked it a bit?
@swatchoclock
I had an ACTIVE conversation thread from a buyer get put in spam on Friday after the buyer asked another question regarding a potential order.
So if they are tweaking things, it's getting worse not better LOL! Who puts an on-going convo thread into spam??
