My message rate keeps declining each month so I am no longer meeting Star Seller, but I've not missed a single message. What is going on? How can I get this fixed? There is no point in this system if it cannot be done correctly.
You can download a spreadsheet of your messages to see which ones are being counted against you. It's on your SSP Dashboard.
I have and it is incorrect
Go to your shop manager, then click on star seller on the left, from there you can click on download & message order history to see how they've counted them.
They're great at telling you when you miss a target but completely oblivious to the shortfalls of the manner of the calculations.
It's ridiculous to have something implemented that doesn't work. It's a great incentive if it does work and is consistent, but it's not. so it's trash.
It’s extremely difficult to recover from a lower score. It would take me 100 more on time reply messages to go from 90 to 95%. I missed a few and my percentage is lower now because I more messages in the previous period. So missing 5% of 100 messages will have a higher score than missing 5% of 75 messages
yeah I've noticed that but mine aren't even correct. I havent missed a message in a very long time and it continually declines. and does so right at the turn ofthe month.

Because on the 1st of the month the review period changes and knocks off an entire month of stats.
It's now counting everything in June July and August, meaning messages in May no longer count.
Star Seller status is probably missed more often by ETSY's ineffective calculations rather than a Seller missing an objective.
Don't use the app to reply to messages, or the "reply" button in the e-mail
Use a browser every time
Are you aware that ALL messages count, not just those received from buyers? If you made a purchase, and received a think you from the seller, you have to respond to that too, any message you receive either needs to be answered within 24 hours, or marked as spam so it won't be counted against you.
The Message rate according to my understanding is calculated in 3-month increments, is this wrong? If not then it does not calculate the amount of messages received and replied to correctly. I have just physically counted my messages at 15 replied to 14 the rate Etsy says is 7 replied to 6! So something has gone seriously wrong!!!!

if you download the messages CSV, you will see which it has counted
The new review period is June July and August.
Every month, a month's worth of messages (reviews and orders etc) drops off.
The current period is June July August -- so in practice only currently calculating over 2 months and one day.
As we go through August, the percentages should go up as long as you reply to any messages in the 24 hours
