Hi all,
I'm shipping an item that I ship all the time and for the first time, received the big red warning saying that it may arrive late. But what's odd is that my shipping speed would arrive BEFORE the buyer expects it, yet it still says it could be late? This is exactly what it says:
Estimated delivery: Jul 18-24
May arrive late (Buyer expects Jul 20-24)
This is so weird?
Yup, I've seen that "late" warning, too, when the dates being shown are not beyond the expected dates.
I just put it down to Etsy being Etsy.
Such a shame. It's as if we don't have enough to stress about already lol
This is an automatic nonsense message. Ignore. It’s just their way to prompt you to spend more on shipping to get it there faster. Etsy and customer happy at your expense. You will not get dinged if you proceed as you were doing and simply ship within your stated timeframe. Lots of posts about this very thing.
That's good to know, thank you!
Very poor sloppy coding
Etsy is pushing very fast shipping and delivery. This was done after the CEO made a promise to increase these times. Since Etsy has no part in the creation or shop processes. Nor can Etsy understand individual sellers creative businesses so this isn't realistic. There has been all kinds of nonsense happening around shipping since this took place which has included inappropriate coding. So I'm not sure if it's a bug?
sigh, I worried it wasn't. But I think it's becoming unrealistic with the shipping expectations.
I'll definitely ignore and hope they change this practice moving forward.
As mentioned, not exactly a bug, per se. It's incorrect and messed up, and technically should be acknowledged as a bug. But they won't do that. It's done on purpose, so why would they? You could do what I do and flip off the computer screen, while purchasing your Ground Advantage label. It makes me feel better.
I wouldn't worry about it. It happens all the time. This morning I had an order come in and it was small and I had all my software open so we were able to ship this afternoon. When I printed the shipping label it said may arrive late. It was shipped within 40 min of order.
What irritates me is the inconsistent dates Etsy provides for estimated processing/shipping and delivery times. There is no rhyme or reason to it and have a specific snippet set up to answer most of the "can I get this by so and so date because Etsy is giving a date that is past the event".
I just ignore the passive aggressive notice from Etsy about may arrive late.
With how frequently this happens in my shop and how Etsy has been radio silent on this, I am chalking it up to them hoping we upgrade shipping out of fear, pay more out of pocket, and Etsy reaps the benefits of extremely fast shipping like Amazon.
If you ship it on time and it "arrives late" due to Etsy's estimate for the customer, Etsy should (and hopefully will) pay out of their own pocket if the client complains.
I too have has this issue. I recently has a package that the Shipping Label claimed 'May arrive late, Customer Expects it the ...{the Next day of placing order}'. This particular package had Many, Many miles to go, too. I try to just ignore the late message, but yes, it can be a bit unsettling.
P.S. I order from Amazon and must add, even They don't ship and get a package to you within 16 hours of your order, {in my experience}.
I tried to bring this up with support and they told me it's an issue with the shipping service (USPS). That was clearly an excuse as this definitely a coding issue. It would probably take someone less than an hour to fix it. It sounds like a little annoyance, but I find it frustrating to see every day. And it reduces visibility for real warning messages. For example, when someone has requested upgraded shipping and I have accidentally chosen a slower method. Their system has become the boy who cried wolf, leading us to ignore the message all the time.
I'm curious, does the buyer see the delivery estimate, or do they base it on the drop-down where you can choose a date range while shopping? Today I read a feedback: "Dropped a star as arrived several days after the advised delivery time span given."
