Make an offer

Has anyone else noticed that Etsy has turned on the Make an Offer feature in their shop? I hadn't offered this on any of my listings because my margins are already very slim. A customer just made an offer I can't afford to take and when I went into my other listings, the Make an Offer option had been turned on every one of them. I turned it off but how can I be sure this won't happen again?

How to Use the Make an Offer Tool   – Etsy Help

That explains how to turn the 'feature' on, I would assume it's going through the same steps to find and turn it off.

I've heard of others saying it was turned on without them doing so, but I haven't had it happen to me so couldn't say for sure. Maybe it was accidentally turned on when clicking on stuff in the marketing screen at some point. Or maybe Etsy made the executive decision to turn it on for you, I wouldn't put that past them. There's another recent post where ads were turned on without the seller's consent, and I've experienced them turning on my offsite ads when I know I didn't, and didn't reach the threshold to be forced into them.

Re: Make an offer

I have had it turn on in my shop before without me doing it.  I swear it makes me think I'm going crazy!

Re: Make an offer

It may be another of the never ending glitches, though I would tend to suspect this is another of Etsy's underhanded tricks to try to generate more sales.

Re: Make an offer

the problem with glitches and tricks is that they upset sellers and buyers.

If make an offer is turned on by glitch or trickery and the seller simply rejects offers ... now there are two unhappy people where before there were none.

Re: Make an offer

I have had the feature turned on for about 20 of my items in my vintage shop. Items I have had for some time and see if it made a difference. Had a few offers ... with sales. Recently I have seen that when I copy a listing to make a new, the "make an offer" is automatically turned on! So I have to remember to turn it off every time. Just had an offer on a newly listed item. I accepted and made a sale. It wasn't meant to be on on that item, but since I had an offer, I accepted. Could have turned it down or made a counter offer. I do not think it's a glitch, I think Etsy wants to check if it makes the sellers accept them and get more sales. We just have to watch our margins. I think of it as an opportunity not something I have to do. Maybe try it for a period and see what happens.
