PLEASE whoever is in charge in your company of the messaging area . . . tell them to stop please!! It is taking forever for messages to load. It has been slow for a long time . . . but now it is even slower! Oh, but this week, the quick replies have been changed and are hidden until you click on it. And the "order help request" system for buyers is totally ridiculous . . . everything worked much better before this confusing addition. I can't think of any other annoying tiny changes right off the top of my head right now but there have been many here and there. And they don't help anything 90% of the time and the important problems never get solved. . . like the painfully slow loading of messages. Not just that but when I click on "send" . . . THAT takes forever. I have customers that will hit the "send" button one to five or six times thinking it isn't going through. Then when they eventually get sent - they feel bad and embarrassed and apologize! Not very professional looking on our part.
This is the Etsy sellers forum, so you are in contact with other sellers here not Etsy, so we cant resolve your problem for you.
However for what it's worth, i'm not aware or have had any issues with outages on the platform, I mention this as you say messages are slow to load . This suggests a problem with your internet access and or that your service provider with a reduced band width or your network has issues. So you may want to check this.
In relation to your query about changes to the messaging format, unfortunately Etsy are constantly tweaking and making changes. Most of the time we know not why. I tend to think it's something they let the trainees play with after all it's only our businesses they are mucking with. This is Etsys sandpit and they tend to do as they choose, the saying adapt and roll with it springs to mind.
Remember Etsy is only on selling platform, there are many other routes to market. If the platform really isnt working for you then explore alternatives.
I am totally aware that this is a "sellers" forum . . . there is NO WAY to tell Etsy directly which is ridiculous. But "they" do scroll through these posts. They just don't want us to know they are! I do not adapt and roll in life . . . there are no "alternatives". I will stay until Etsy self destructs because my customers find me and I serve my customers and NO ONE has successfully started another site of this caliber that can compete.
Thank you to everyone who has shared their opinion here. I agree that the messaging area really needs some major improvements. Effective communication with customers is crucial for us as sellers on Etsy, and the recent changes have made it even more challenging—for example, hiding quick replies and making it harder to upload multiple images at once.
I hope the Etsy team will listen to our feedback and work on making the messaging system smoother and more professional for everyone. Looking forward to future updates that solve these issues and simplify our workflow.
In the meantime, have any of you found temporary solutions or tips to deal with the slow system? Let’s share what works for us!
I'm so glad they replaced the "create custom order" button with a confusing symbol, but did nothing to fix the dysfunctional custom listing tool itself.
@BridalPhotoCharms I was trying to answer your query. When you write ....PLEASE whoever is in charge in your company of the messaging area ....why do you think I mentioned that this was the sellers forum. Getting snippy with me is not appreciated and ultimately means that forum members may think twice before offering help in the future.
I’m not having any problems with messages loading slowly.
Completely DUMB to hide the quick replies button. They are no longer QUICK replies now since I have an additional click now. But Etsy can't do anything without adding an extra click.
Lord forbid they ever make messages a little better by allowing sellers the ability to upload 3 images all at the same time instead of one by one.
I am not having any issues, but I know that VPNs can cause delays and also with most browsers rolling out AI tools currently, that could also be a reason, try other browsers and see if there are any improvements.
Last week quick replies were showing in messages that I wanted to respond to w/o a quick reply. Not even sure where some of those quick replies came from. Took a while for me to get rid of the quick reply and get to a blank message box. If I remember correctly, I had to click on the Quick Reply button to turn these off.
Every day, I get messages - most from long term repeat buyers. Those threads go back years. Makes me nuts. I've asked multiple times for Etsy to please start threads from scratch ... at least every year.
Yeah, I have lots of wishes for the messaging system to make it better.
As far as loading, I think a lot of slow/fast is more about my internet or even computer than Etsy. Speed varies throughout the day.
