Lost every "ADDED TO BASKET" sign on my listings in a few minutes

Hello Etsy fam

My shop yesterday had multiple listings with the sign "added to basket". My best seller had "20+ added", and 4 more listings had over 10 added to basket. Thats a total of 60+ added to basket. This was helping greatly to achieve sales more than usual.

In matter of minutes they instantly all disappeared and now it seems like no-one is interested on those items.

I know after 30 days Etsy moves it to "save for later" section. But that's not the case here cause that should mean that all 60 potential buyers added the listings on the basket simultaneously 30 days ago. That's not possible. 

I've contacted Etsy support and they dont really know why this happened.

I've contacted some friends that have shops on Etsy and they never had a similar experience, their "added to basket" never disappeared all together in a few minutes.

It's the 2nd time this is happening on my shop. Tbh its very a bit discouraging not getting a specific answer on why this is happening so I can avoid to experience it again and again.

- Its not the 30 days period moving to "save for later" (that would apply if all 60+ added all items in a few minutes 30 days ago -not possible)

- I didn't renewed my stock (that could trigger them to disappear)

- I didn't change anything on my shop (except added a few translation on some listing)

Anyone has any answers on why this is happening? 

Its a technical issue on my shop? Its a technical issue of Etsy? Is Etsy removing them in random? Anyone from the technical team of Etsy can give me an answer?

Etsy clears the data every 30 days or so. It does it once a month and all the data that is there, goes. It happens all the time.

Yesterday I had an Etsy call with the support, they never said they remove everything every 30 days. They told me every item that goes in the basket is being moved to "save for later" 30 days later individually.

Also friends with successful shops never experienced this removal.

@TREEPARTstore   Chat is not always reliable about how Etsy works.

After so many days the items are removed from the basket or the buyer chooses to remove from the basket.

I've removed from my basket as a buyer.  And I have had Etsy remove items to later when I left them there too long.

You have a sale. That display of discount overrides the basket message.

There's only so much room.

So when you run a sale it cannot display the in basket stuff, because it's displaying the sale stuff.

Nothing has disappeared from baskets, it just can't display the wording.

It's like @CappuccinoLace says. All of them go away when you have a sale.

Plus you have "free shipping" which takes up the rest of the space.

I 've added a sale after today. There still was zero items on basket so I've made a sale to help again my shop.

@paperpoludesigns @CappuccinoiLace I ve added a sale 1 hour ago since there was no solution. 

Yesterday on Etsy support call, I had no sales and I also removed the Free Shipping on one of my best seller to prove to Etsy support that Free Shipping is not the case for losing 60+ added to basket instantly.

For items to be in someone's cart rarely results in a sale (in my opinion).

Some of my Easter items have been in carts for weeks - Easter is in 3 days and there hasn't been a sale on those items and at this late date there isn't going to be one.

I once had a piece of fabric in a cart for weeks so I think they kept renewing it.  When the listing expired, I didn't relist it for several weeks and when I did, it immediately went into a cart.  Was it the same person?  Who knows.  I finally took the listing down because it was annoying to have it in a cart continually.

Not true, I checked listings of other stores that I know had 20+ items in carts, some of them have been emptied, and others have not. My best sellers have been emptied. MY CART was emptied (and no, it didn't go to saved for later).

Also today I was browsing and ENTIRE pages of ads loaded first, not one item was on the page that wasn't an ad.

Same happens on mine. Some will have not long since added it and it gets removed and sent to their saved for later. Etsy support are often unaware of how things are actually running unfortunately. It's a monthly occurrence for me, so I've just gotten used to it happening now.

Thank you Karena. Indeed support cannot help on this matter those Etsy has an excellent support team but on this one there are no real infos to provide. Thanks for taking the time to respond. Hope Etsy fix this soon.

The exact same experience just happened to me. Yesterday, I had probably 10 or more listings with 20+ people having them in their cart. Today...all listings now have ZERO listings in their carts. Seriously? Tell me that over 80 to 100 people all decided they were no longer interested in an item. I don't buy that. I get so frustrated with Etsy. Additionally, April of 2021 and 2022 were great months for me with tons of favorites and lots of sales. This April I'm down over 52%. None of this makes sense to me! Just have to hope for the best.

In my experience this feature is completely random. Have you tried comparing how it appears on different devices? I find that "In xx Carts" appears totally differently depending on which device I am using.

Thanks and yes I did  try to do that on two separate devices and both went from 20+ to ZERO literally overnight.

I had several items with "20" or more folks with items in the "cart" yesterday. Today zero. I think all those numbers are fake and at random. But they wipe them all out at once? Why ..... more random technical problems.... when does this ever get better??

Today my shop is down 50 + "saved in cart" from my listing.  I had no sales yesterday or today.  Wasn't 30 days.

Mine have all cleared too I had a number of listings with 20+ in baskets…. Doesn’t bother me to be honest it’s quite a relief I get in a bit panic thinking I might sell that much !  I had a message from a would be customer last night wanted a discount if they brought 1000 ….. err sorry no not making that many of anything lol

There is nothing to fix.  The whole system is just a gimmick to try to give buyers a sense of urgency so that they buy more quickly.  It has no real value, It has worked this way since they set it up (maybe 3 years ago).  

It is not the items that are emptied, but the cart.  If there are 10 items in the cart when it it is time to empty it, it doesn't matter if 6 of them were put in the cart just the day before, they all will be gone.  They empty the carts approximately once a month.  They emptied mine approximately the 30th of March and will empty them next around the 30th of April.  Sometimes they all get emptied on the same day and sometimes it takes a couple of days before all the carts get emptied.
