Listing doesn't come up in search at all

I found an item listed on Etsy while using my phone. I was unable to save it because of having to log into my account and being generally lazy and having my computer close at hand I decided to look for the same listing using my computer. I typed the sellers exact title into my Etsy search bar and because the item was pretty specific, there were only one and a half pages of items returned in the search. But the listing I was looking at was not included - nowhere to be found. And many of the items that were returned in the search did not match exactly. How is it that possible? It puts fear in my heart that my own items are being search for specifically by  potential customers and they are not displayed in the search - not even on page 5 or 6 or 10 or 2. Thoughts?

If the listing does not ship to your country it won't be included in search results, but you will still be able to see the listing page if getting there by other means (eg. social media links, shop home page).

@QueenofPatterns: "I typed the sellers exact title into my Etsy search bar ..." Even exact word matches to your title no longer ensure that you will appear high in search. Etsy is proud of the fact that they provide search results which they think you will actually purchase regardless of what you actually searched for. Doing the same search on different devices or in different log in states will definitely give you different results.

Don't expect Etsy's search bar to return exact results - the search engine just doesn't work that way.

Use Google instead. I bet it will show you the listing right away.

Google also did not return the product using the entire exact title. I find it somewhat strange. But thanks for your input.

Next time try to remember the shop name and type it into the search bar and then click the shop names and their shop should come up and then you can search within their shop only for the item. There is also the slight chance the item could have sold in the short interim as have seen it happen.

The product is still available. My point is more in regards to how search works or in this case doesn't work. When you enter a title word for word as it is written in the Etsy search bar you somehow expect the item to be included in the search results.

Try usng a private / incognito browser window, and do not log in. This is to evade Etsy's search history based personalisation of search results.

Etsy personalise search results based on search history. So, if you have been shown something already and looked at it but not bought it, Etsy will hide it from you because they believe you were not interested. Yeah, it's daft.

You might not be including the exact terms that they included for the title maybe…

I entered the title word for word, even including the punctuation. And it did not return the product in the search.

Re: Listing doesn't come up in search at all

I just noticed this problem with two of my products.  They are my two best selling items, and I was advertising both of them.  1 of them is actually a Best Seller now.  They are not coming up in searches, but they are still coming up in my shop.  I decided to turn off advertising and then turn them back on.  I put them both on sale.  They still won't come up in searches, but I have other items that are coming up.

I got also similar issue today. Some of my listings disappears in search results, I still can't see the listings after browsed 100+ pages. And those listings even can not be searched in my own shop.

I also was trying to find my own item which is listed for sale on my Etsy shop.  I scrolled through 30 pages looking for the item.  First time I searched for it, using the exact words I used to list it.  Also searched for my shop using exact name with and without spaces. Me nor my items were anyhere to be found.  I find this interesting that other people have experienced similar happenings.  I was just curious how Etsy was representing me and my products.  Now I know.  Wondering if any of you use other platforms to sell your items and if they are any better.

@LittleSewnCreations

Your shop is indexed, so your items will be *somewhere* in the search results -- but your title & tags are so general, they will be way back in the results. (To check if indexed do a search within your own shop -- if you get results there, then you are indexed even if you cannot find your item in the main search)

You have an item with a one word title "quilt" and only 4 single word tags. There is no chance that that item will rank highly as your title and tags are far too generic. I am guessing it is the same for your other quilts too.

Your titles should be 3-4 phrases that describe the item -- include colours, pattern, size etc -- so "Patchwork quilt in reds, pinks, white for Double Bed"

Tags should be multi-word -- and use all 13 if possible with different phrases that describe the item, eg Red pink quilt, Double bed quilt, patchwork squares,
