I've been selling on Etsy for 12 years and this is the first time I've noticed that several of my items don't show up when searching for the specific item. I've messed with the title, listing body, and search terms and nothing seems to make a difference. Does anyone know why this may be happening? Seems like something to ask Etsy about but it's such a pain trying to get any relevant information anymore I thought I'd try here. Thanks!
In this case the items don't even come up when I search for them in my shop, although they can be found other ways.
Not sure why, but try logging out and then searching for your items and see if they show up then. You may get different results depending on whether you are signed in or not.
Thanks for the suggestion, I tried that but it doesn't make any difference. Weird thing is I just listed a similar item and that shows up, just not the other thing. I can't think of any logical reason this would happen....
Please give us an example so we can check. There are many reasons this can happen, and looking at the listing can help us figure it out.
In this case I searched for "vintage taylor ng cat mug"
I've been here since 2013. When I checked on my shop earlier it said "no items listed" for half the day. I have 174 items listed but they did not show. Don't know what that's about but something is messed up.
That's really weird!
@luola
I did a search within your shop and on Etsy's search page and vintage taylor ng cat mug showed up for me in your shop and in search.
On the search pages it was on page #2 on the 4th row.
@luola I wonder if it's the word "naughty"that is hiding your item unless someone actually includes that word in their search term? Like the word sexy hides items from general searches.
I searched naughty and that mug did show up, but did not if I simply searched vintage taylor ng mug.
I guess that's possible? Naughty has multiple meanings, so it doesn't seem right if so.
Hi, When I type vintage "taylor ng cat mug" in the Search Bar, I get 5 of your listings on Pg. 3.
Well I'm glad someone can find them. They're still missing for me.
I even tried it using a different browser, still won't show up for me in etsy or via google search.
I am not seeing it in Etsy search either, even when I narrow the search narrow to Eugene - I do see 3 other listings for you, however. https://www.etsy.com/search/vintage?q=taylor+ng+cat+mug&explicit=1&locationQuery=5725846&item_type=v...
In your shop I see a mug for that search that I do not see in Etsy search, but still not the mug you linked to.
If I search "naughty" in your shop, that listing does appear, however: https://www.etsy.com/shop/luola?ref=shop-header-name&listing_id=1610385621&from_page=listing&search_...
That indicates that the word "naughty" is probably being caught by the "sex" filter and your item with that word is being hidden for searches that do not include the word "naughty", as @Smudgekitty mentioned. This may be exacerbated by the name "Taylor", as Etsy is hiding some tags/titles involving Taylor Swift infringement.
Try removing the word "naughty" from the title, tags & description of that listing you linked to, and check back in an hour.
yes i had to remove the word *naughty* from one of my listings last month.
also the word *whip* in another listing.
they both sold right after i did that too.
i really dislike the invisible list of words we should not be using.
Thanks! This is helpful. I will alter and see what happens.
Only problem is there are lots of similar mugs which use "naughty" in the title, so that can't be the issue.
@luola it can definitely be the issue, as not all listings get caught. We've seen this happen before, as @nineteen27 explained.
I hear talk of not being indexed at times
@SugarPressStudios this item is indexed, as it shows up for certain words.
