Once I type in the search bar one of my main search requests 'flower hair comb' and apply filter by location Brooklyn Park, MN (where my shop is), there are no one hair combs at all though I have 29 items with this exact word combination in my titles and tags.
The same happens to my listings when I search for flower 'crown' and apply filter by price or by location, again, my items are not in the search results.
I have found about 60 search requests my items not searchable with:
flower headpiece
flower comb
flower comb burgundy
flower hair comb burgundy
flower crown adult
flower crown
flower crown wedding
pocket boutonniere
and many many others.
But once I make mistake in the search words combinations like 'lower hair comb' or 'flower hair comN' - my items magically appear in search results.
Could please somebody from tech support team take a look into this?
@WeddingExperts: Just so you know, even if Etsy Support or the Help Pages sent you here this is a seller peer to peer forum, and should not be considered a way to contact Etsy, if that is your hope (although Etsy does sometimes read and reply to posts).
You need to give up on the concept of Etsy search providing the results that you expect. Due to "personalized searches" there are many many factors that affect listing placement and the relative weight of each factor probably changes constantly. Even exact word matches to your title no longer ensure that you will appear on the first 250 pages which are displayed to the world. Etsy is proud of the fact that they provide search results which they think you will actually purchase regardless of what you actually searched for.
There is a very interesting post at https://community.etsy.com/t5/Marketing-Your-Business/Etsy-search-is-moving-away-from-relevancy/td-p... that you may want to take the time to read.
Thank you for your comment, I have contacted Etsy via chat multiply times and last time they advised me to start topic here stating tech support monitors this forum constantly.
I have no solution for you but that is weird. If I search for "flower hair comb" and filter to Brooklyn Park, MN you do not appear. If I search without a filter for a section of your title (10 or so words) then you do appear in a general search with no filters. If I search "flower hair comb" with a filter of Minnesota you do not appear. It seems the search omits you if the location is Minnesota. I checked incognito as well. I checked for my items out of curiosity and I show for Minnesota searches.
Thank you very much for taking a look, but if I apply any filters like price or estimated delivery date etc., my items are not visible as well... So not only the location is an issue.
It looks like there is another Minnesota seller who totally DOMINATES the search results when I filter down to Minnesota without specifying a city. I think Etsy search now favors shops/items with a LOT of sales, so one-of-a-kind items with low/no sales get buried way at the back if they even show up at all.
Thank you for your time, @KKbraceletsandmore!
Unfortunately this happens If I apply another filter, for example by price. I have a flower hair comb with the price 30$, but when I apply it, nothing changes - my items are not visible.
But if I make a mistype in my search request, like flower hair comN - my items magically appear. So it looks like a bug in search system for me.
may have some suggestions about this.
FYI, there are things you can do so you rank better in general search.
Should I sent her DM?
@PlatypusDream @WeddingExperts "Should I sent her DM?" No, I am here
: - )
This looks like frequency capping to me, especially since your items show up for more niche searches, or filtered by price etc. https://www.etsy.com/search?q=flower+hair+comb+purple+gothic+dark&ship_to=US&max=15.25&min=14.95&ref...
https://www.etsy.com/search?explicit=1&q=flower+hair+comb+purple+gothic+dark&ship_to=US&order=price_...
Have you been searching for your items a lot? That can trigger it.
It may also be due to image recognition, price weighting (your prices are relatively low) or some other factor that isn't obvious to us without other knowledge.
Your way to get around this is to aim for more niche searches instead of the big generic ones, and complete your shop (About page etc.). You may want to ask for a critique in the critique forum, as this one is not the right place for that discussion.
Thank you so much for participating in this discussion!
I can't say that I've searched for my items a lot, probably few times a day, is that a lot? exactly this has been the same issue since the first listing was published and wasn't in search with filter by location. So I thought it is because of my new shop was not established well and had no feedback, few months passed, but nothing has changed since then...
@WeddingExperts that is a lot. Most people being frequency capped are searching for their own items too much (including me when this first started, as I used one test search I ranked quite well in to check for daily changes.) Only search for your stuff when you suspect a problem.
Reset your location, although I doubt that is the issue, as you show up when I filter this search to MN: https://www.etsy.com/search?q=flower+hair+comb+purple+gothic+dark&explicit=1&locationQuery=5037779&s...
You won't believe, but now my items are visible in search with all those search requests! I suppose tech support monitors these topics and they helped since I have changed nothing in my shop.
Thank you so much!
