Etsy runs tests like this regularly.

Is the return email address something@something.Etsy.com? If so, it's from Etsy.

I also know that from time to time Etsy does ask specific sellers to test things for them and provide feedback. I also know that Etsy does use that survey tool: survey.alchemer.com.
