I’m not sure what to do. I don’t take returns, but I do accept size exchanges within 14 days. I’ve updated Etsy’s new policies display to reflect this. But customers keep getting confused! Since I don’t take returns, it only displays that I take exchanges. But customers keep reading the “return within 14 days” (applying to exchanges) as I do take returns. I’ve also restated our policies within the FAQ section of my shop. Because of Etsy’s new policies display, I’ve unfortunately gotten into several arguments with customers over returns, pointing out my FAQ etc, but they’re adamant I’m in the wrong and have even rated my shop lower and opened cases over it. (Of course Etsy won’t take down reported reviews, even though they go against their policies, being that they’re about Etsy, not my shop) Has anyone found a good solution to this problem? I wish Etsy would add explicitly if you don’t accept returns.
To make it appear on your product page, you have to set either you take returns or No returns on the product page.
Etsy originally told us that our current policies would apply unless we changed them, but several people have reported that is not the case, and they just reverted to no policy at all.
So if you didn't go through and set the Return Policy on the product pages when the changes went into effect, then Etsy (and the customer) will see it as you not having any policies at all, and Etsy will side with the buyer if a Case is filed if you don't have your policies set.
Do you have licenses to sell this stuff???? Its all IP infringement.
I'll take that as a no. Do something original. How lame.
People don't read the details. To not accept returns is basically unheard of online nowadays.
As for the reviews, they could easily open cases NAD and keep the item and get their money back if you won't accept returns. So you will lose both. They are just stating what they think about your shop, not Etsy (the reviews I saw).
Agreed, which is unfortunate. Im not sure how to display it any clearer
Yeah, in the case of the opened case, Etsy refunded them. Luckily out of their own money, not mine. Because I had evidence that my shop says no returns.
It may be further back, but someone left a negative review and stated I won’t take returns even though my shop says so, which isn’t true. Such a bummer. Luckily the good has been outweighing the bad, but I’m afraid the bad will start piling up
If you are going to refuse returns for any reason, then you have to set your return policy to No Returns. Etsy will not enforce anything in your FAQ, but you could tell your customers there that you will do exchanges on sizes. I would also include that information in your product description.
Of course, if the product is defective for some reason or gets lost in the mail, you would also need to replace it. You can buy insurance with your mail carrier for those situations.
Oh! Sorry for the confusion, but I do have it set as no returns. But because I do, Etsy doesn't display that part at all.

It doesn't really matter. Since all your items are IP infringements you will lose any case opened against you irrespective of what policies you have in place.
