Is Etsy's bots affecting my number of visits and views? Every now and then I get outrageous numbers. I just don't believe they are real visits.
Those aren't Etsy bots. They are most likely third-party web-crawling bots. I'm not sure what their actual purpose is though. I had a big spike on June 14th. Etsy is supposed to remove the bot views from the stats but that doesn't always happen.
I suspected as much. I can understand the visit but don't they have to open a listing for a view?
Sorry, my technical capacity doesn't go much further than trying to imagine what the critters look like.
@Hertfordweaver they may well be opening the listings but they don't have eyes (as such) - bots are just automated computer code probably running on a virtual machine.
@Hertfordweaver: "... don't they have to open a listing for a view?" The way Etsy works behind the scenes, the URL request (https://www.etsy.com/listing/[LISTING_ID]) generates a response from the server and is interpreted as a view.
@Hertfordweaver: More likely the inflated numbers are caused by other bots, such as search engines and third party seller tools (i.e. Marmalead, etc).
It's silly, isn't it
I sometimes get huge numbers of visits and views, in the hundreds.
This has recently been happening to me too. In the hundreds!
Wow, I Never recived more then 150-200 "Calls" and only 50 Visits per Day.
