I noticed a lot of people having their shop suspended due to their EIN, but I’ve only seen solutions to this problem for sellers with LLCs which doesn’t work for me. I am an Individual or sole proprietor seller type (not a business or LLC) which is what I chose when I applied for an EIN. When I try to input my taxpayer ID information on Etsy, I keep getting the same response: “The name and Tax ID provided does not match the IRS records”. I’ve been on the phone with IRS twice within the last month and have confirmed the EIN is accurate and goes with my name. Of course customer support on Etsy is an absolute waste of time since I get the same scripted nonsense every time.
And just for clarification, I am NOT inputting my SSN. Call me crazy, but when the actual IRS lady says to me “you can put in your SSN as your tax ID but honestly I wouldn’t do that” that’s a signal for me NOT to. Bedsides, the whole reason I got an EIN was so I didn’t have to give Etsy my SSN.
Just wondering if anyone else that is a Sole Proprietor and not a LLC has any solution to this annoying problem. It’s been over a month, and so for now, my shop is on vacation mode.
@OneSparrowDesigns: You might want to take a look at https://community.etsy.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Change-Social-Security-Number-to-Business-EIN-number/... There is a potential solution ...
Thanks for the tip. It stinks that I may have to wait another month (and having my shop suspended another month), but many seem to have luck with waiting and the EIN finally working.
