Incorrect Tracking number leads to Etsy saying package wasnt shipped on time and it was.

So i fat fingered a tracking number and didn't notice. Etsy denied me star seller status saying the package was not shipped on time and i did ship it on time. Ive corrected it and you can clearly see it was shipped on time. How could you not have a review process for correction? I really did nothing wrong but hit an extra key and now theyre making me pay for it.

Actually, you have three days to correct / update Tracking information before it becomes "locked in". Changes made after three days will not update for SSP  purposes.

@AllDayEveryDayy: As mentioned, there is a three day window to correct tracking information. A tracking number that never shows scan / tracking events will be at the very least considered as shipped without tracking.

Actually you can fix this after the 3 days...chat support walked me through it when I did the same thing - as long as it hasn't been delivered yet (the thinking there is tracking is for the benefit of the buyer). If you go to the order and click on the 3 dots there is something there that reads  "add a package" - you can put the correct tracking number in there. Star seller status will update in a few hours afterward.

@AroundTheGlobeImages: Your suggestion is a very good one, but we cannot find a definitive answer of what happens if you use your method after the ship by date - will Etsy consider the package shipped late since you cannot back date the shipped date?

My post is the definitive answer from Etsy if it is beyond the 3 days but the package hasn't been delivered yet. You go to add a package - all you are adding is the correct tracking number - that tracking will automatically show the date it was actually shipped - in a few hours the SS will update. If you don't believe me go to chat and they will walk you through it.

When adding a tracking number, please make sure that the carrier and the tracking number match. If the carrier and tracking numbers do not match, this will count as an invalid tracking number. In case of an error, you have three days to edit the tracking number on the order. You can also check our help center article explaining how to add or edit a tracking number.

I've done that too.  I took the hit but next time my finger erred, I remembered to check and correct the number and tracking corrected.

To Etsy it does look like you didn't ship.  The tracking number has to track.  That is one of the important parts.

Can I assume that if a tracking number is changed, the buyer receives an email informing them?

There are two things,

you can change it up to 3 days,

but for ships ON TIME with tracking, for star seller, you have to change it by the ship-by date

If you change it after the ship by date, even if it's within the 3 days edit time, it recalculates the ship date, to the date you edited it, and you will be late
