Incorrect Delivery Estimates on Expedited Shipping Upgrades

There is no way to set different processing times on the expedited shipping upgrades, so the buyers end up seeing the same delivery estimate, even though the expedited shipping options ship the next or same day, whereas the standard shipping option ships up to 5 days later.  As a result, they do not choose the expedited shipping upgrades when they really need to, because the delivery estimate is the same. They do not read that I have put that the upgrades ship next or same day. I need to be able to set processing times when adding shipping upgrades.

Re: Incorrect Delivery Estimates on Expedited Shipping Upgrades

@9x1klazc: Changing the processing time based on selected shipping option is what Etsy would probably consider an edge case that they will not address. After all, Etsy ideally wants you to have shipped the day before the order was even placed. Delivery estimates should however change based on the estimated in-transit time of the selected shipping option.

There is no shop so it is hard to tell from what limited information you are giving us what the issue may be or where this shop is located.

All accounts must be linked in the public profiles.

And it would be helpful if you were posting from the shop where this is happening.

Re: Incorrect Delivery Estimates on Expedited Shipping Upgrades

Thanks, all! Sorry for the lack of detail - I have my tumbler shop offline right now, but this is something that comes up and confuses customers when they need something quickly, but get to the checkout page and the shipping options all say roughly the same delivery dates. It can take me up to 5 days (clearly communicated) to ship due to filling orders on a first-come, first-served basis. I hope the example below illustrates this better than my first vague post. NOTE: the text in the parenthesis is what I have as the custom description of the shipping upgrade I've added, because you don't have to use the defaults that are in the shipping profiles).

STANDARD SHIPPING (Get it May 24-29)

PRIORITY SHIPPING (Get it May 24-29 - Ships NEXT business day)

UPS 2ND DAY AIR (Get it May 23-25 - Ships SAME business day)

So, the issue, as you can see in the example above, is that I can't set that processing times for the expedited shipping upgrades and that they actually ship the SAME or NEXT day. So, if someone pays for UPS 2nd Day Air, for example, I'm obviously not going to wait until 5 days to ship it - it's going to go out the same day (if a business day). BUT, the drop down of shipping options shows that they will all arrive pretty much in the same timeframe - NOT TRUE. Unfortunately, people aren't reading or understanding the part where it says "Ships Same/Next Day" (people don't read, lol).

I hope that helps clarify the issue. Shipping upgrades (at least in my store) do NOT have the same processing times or wait until the other orders to ship - that's the whole point of offering expedited shipping because people need it sooner. If shops do have the same processing times for their expedited shipping upgrades, then they could just set them to the be same as their standard shipping if that's the case. But the rest of us who ship out faster (because they need it yesterday) do not have a way to set processing times of 1 day for UPS 2nd Day Air and Priority Mail if we ship those out faster than standard orders who are not in a rush.

Re: Incorrect Delivery Estimates on Expedited Shipping Upgrades

So you are trying to change your processing time frame to match the shipping service?

It actually doesn't work like that on Etsy.  You choose the processing time frame.  The Standard is 2 to 5 GA and Priority is 1 to 3.  UPS and Fedex aren't listed I believe.  Don't know since I seldom visit shops that use those services.

You can't change the processing time frame to individualize the shipping service within the same listing.

So what you want to do is just not available on Etsy.

Most sellers I know of who do quicker shipping simply have a one day processing time frame.  Some even ship the day of the order.

Ore you can add Priority Express but if you are doing orders as first come first served then frankly it would be better to create a snippet or other communication that tells the buyer not possible.

The ones that can have items already made.  Most are probably resellers that have a vast amount already to go.  Just have to pack and ship.

Re: Incorrect Delivery Estimates on Expedited Shipping Upgrades

Thank you for the reply - that is exactly right! However, I'm not trying to do it - I'm trying to report as a technical issue because you can't. Many of us make personalized or custom items that are not ready to ship, so they take days to complete, especially if you have a queue of orders. The issue is that you cannot adjust the processing times for expedited shipping, but should be able to. I was hoping to report that as a bug because right now, it's one-size-fits-all processing time, which is not true for buyers who need it sooner and we need them to select the shipping speed upgrade. The estimated shipping and delivery dates show the same dates, though, because I can't tell the system that UPS 2nd Day Air orders ship the same/next business day (I literally drop what I'm doing and personalize their item and ship it). I hope this is making sense. I'm just trying to report a bug that we need to be able to set different processing times for different shipping speeds (meaning that sellers whose processing times are the same can set them to be all the same, no difference). For instance:

  • Standard Shipping Processing Time: 2-5 days (actual shipping speed takes up to 5 days)
  • Priority Shipping Processing Time: 1-2 days (actual shipping speed takes up to 4 days)
  • UPS 2nd Day Air Processing Time: 1 day (actual shipping speed takes a guaranteed 2 business days)

Sellers who don't need different processing times wouldn't have to set them differently - they could all be the same.

Thanks again!

Re: Incorrect Delivery Estimates on Expedited Shipping Upgrades

@9x1klazc: "... I'm trying to report as a technical issue  ..." From Etsy's standpoint this is not a technical issue, it is a design / corporate philosophy issue. I understand what you want to accomplish and actually think that it could be a good option, but Etsy wants a shop to ship EVERYTHING as soon as possible.

And I see a whole can of worms opening up - sellers are already complaining about unrealistic 'Get It By' date ranges. If this was implemented no doubt Etsy would show the best case scenario dates regardless of what shipping options / processing times a shop had in place.
