Improper Shipping info given to buyers

I have my shipping set to 3-5 business days because I am handicapped and can't always get things out in a day or two. Lately, I've been shipping faster in 2-3 days. I have noticed that several times when I send something out early I get a message when purchasing postage that the package may be late. Today I sent an order out that was purchased on the 12th the ship by date was the 19th, I'm sending it out early and I get the message that the buyer expects delivery 18 -23. How can they get a delivery on the 18th if my ship by date is the 19th? This has happened several times and I feel for the buyer because they have an expectation they they think I am not meeting when actually I am exceeding expectations by sending out early. Is this a post office glitch or an etsy glitch?

It goes by when you ship not your original shipping date you put in the listing.

Re: Improper Shipping info given to buyers

I understand that, but my shipping profile is set for 3-5 days. I am actually shipping early,  however it shows it will arrive late. If I shipped in the 3 -5 days that my shipping profile is set for, it would be REALLY LATE

Re: Improper Shipping info given to buyers

@BellasSilverShop: If you purchasing labels through Etsy, there appears to be a glitch in the user display during that process that says an order will be late. Look at the actual order (both before and after purchasing labels / marking it as complete) to see what is displayed to the buyer.

Re: Improper Shipping info given to buyers

This same thing was happening to me so I stopped shipping earlier. Etsy's system based the estimated delivery date on my shipping history, not on the processing time I set in my shipping profile.

Wow! that's bad and makes the seller look bad. Etsy needs to fix that glitch because ultimately it reflects badly on Etsy. Buyers need accurate info especially during the holidays when they want to give gifts.

Etsy claims to be working on this issue but hard to believe, it is taking so long to fix!

This has been happening for months. It doesn't seem to affect anything at all so I just ignore.

It affects your reviews/feedback if a buyer thinks they received their item late they are hesitant to leave a good review

@BellasSilverShop

I have zero indication that is happening. No customer inquiries about delayed packages. No poor reviews about late arrivals. Many notes about speedy delivery.

Re: Improper Shipping info given to buyers

Its half of the things I mail.  I ignore it.  Why does Etsy think its a good idea for a buyer to think they will get it sooner than possible?  I thought for a while it was so sellers would chip in the extra for priority out of their own pocket.  Doing this might make fewer instant refunds Etsy has to fork over due to ground shipping running late.  How could it be a glitch?

Re: Improper Shipping info given to buyers

Since Etsy is all over the place with shipping info, I have this on my announcement

"Welcome to my shop! All my items are a finished product. I usually mail same day, or day after the order. If ordered on a Sunday or a holiday, I will get in the mail the next day. I cannot be responsible for Etsy's projected shipping times."

Re: Improper Shipping info given to buyers

The 19th is the longest ship by date, so Etsy uses that to calculate the longest delivery time (the 23rd). Your shortest is 3 days, but you have been shipping faster than that lately, so Etsy is adjusting for that.

There are also a few inconsistent bugs, though. We don't have control of this, so I just tell each buyer when I will ship and how long it is expected to take to arrive. If that is after Etsy's projected delivery times, then Etsy can refund any angry buyers.

I've been getting that message from time to time over many years here.  Actually all my packages got delivered just fine.  The buyer never saw what I saw.   I just ignore what it says in the label area.
