I select Australia Post as the carrier but Etsy changes it to FED EX which invalidates the tracking

I always select Australia Post as my carrier, but on some of my listings the carrier gets changed by Etsy to Fed Ex which then invalidates the tracking which then sabotages my star seller rating.  It's not possible to edit this back to the  correct carrier either.  Why on earth is this field not editable?  Aside from it sabotaging the star seller rating, it must make things difficult for all parties concerned if a parcel goes missing.  When is it likely this flaw will be fixed?

Are you doing this through the app?  or through the website?

I always enter the tracking info for Aus Post via the etsy website, and have never had any issues.

It happens to the German sellers as well. We select DHL for international orders and it turns into Deutsche Post.

They are NOT the same! We can edit it though and correct it, 3 days.

How to edit the tracking number on an order

Once you complete an order and add tracking information manually, you have three days to make changes to the tracking number or shipping carrier.

 

  1. On Etsy.com, go to Shop Manager, then Orders & Shipping.
  2. Select Completed.
  3. Choose the order with the tracking information you want to change and scroll down to the package you want to edit.
  4. Select Edit tracking to the right of the original tracking number.
  5. Make any changes to the tracking number or shipping carrier.
  6. Select Save

If you need to change the number after three days, you can contact your buyer through Etsy Messages with the correct tracking number, and add the tracking number to your private notes on the order for your records. Keeping your buyer updated will help avoid any potential confusion or disputes.

I have had this happen once or twice, when I saw the Fedex notation on the orders page, I just went into the order and edited it and it fixed it.

I always check orders after I have completed them to make sure they are correctly assigned.

Yes, I have had this happen too.  I also just changed it on the order and that fixed it.  On one order, which I didn't pick up very quickly, I also messaged the customer to let them know that I was sending it by Australia Post and not Fedex and gave them the tracking no. again (although that was pre-Star Seller so it didn't affect that).

I've had this happen many times with me entering Colissimo as the carrier, and then later when I check why it is still showing pre-transit after it has already been dropped off and scanned at the PO, I see it shows shipper as Chronopost.  I have now learnt to check each time as soon as it is marked as shipped as the window of opportunity to edit that info is very small.

I am in the UK and have this issue too. Twice now my buyers have had two messages, one saying delivery will be by Royal Mail and a second one saying it will be delivered by FedEx. I emailed customer support and don't think they know what to do. The last reply was asking me to send a screen shot!

Thank you, I now understand why I have been able to edit it on a couple of occasions - there is a 3 day window.  I will have to have a policy of checking through the orders the next day.  Overnight, I have had an account reserve placed on my shop, holding 75% of my funds that are not despatched with tracking.  Charming.

I have just had this happen to me. The chat guy was reasonably helpful but I can't help thinking I'm going to get pinged for 'late shipping' if I use their advice. I did the 'add package' thing and messaged the buyer. Apparently if they will confirm delivery via message, Etsy will mark it as such. I know I didn't select FedEx. I only use AusPost and they are miles apart on the list of carrier options. Not happy Jan!

I have found that if you use Australia Post tracked envelopes the tracking number is quite different to the normal tracked parcel number and Etsy changes it to FEDEX.  I have changed the carrier back to Australia Post, but only if it is in the 3 day window.

@MissyMoosAttic interesting about the different tracking numbers. I shipped this order express parcel ... and the number is different to the standard tracking. I've used it before and didn't have this FedEx swap rubbish. It's too late to change as I shipped 4 days ago and it was actually delivered today.

The Etsy chat says if I can get the buyer to confirm delivery, they will change it to delivered ... or I wait for the FedEx tracking to update??

It’s a system glitch that has been going on since sometime last year, I get it for my Dutch Postal carrier too. Even if I enter the right one, once completed it shows a different Dutch one which then will always be stuck in pre-transit. You then have three days to change it to a correct one, but kind of unprofessional I find as the incorrect one is initially updated to the customer. 

I have noticed that if I - before completing the order - switch the carrier from the correct one to another one and then back to the right one and THEN complete it will stay correct. So odd. If I just have the correct one showing (without the fiddling back and forth) it will change it to the wrong one once completing.

You would think something as important as correct tracking info would be a priority for Etsy to fix as it is clearly a systems bug that I first noticed it sometime in 2022.

I have this issue as well and I hate to have to make it part of my postage routine to check it didn't default. Its not fair as it affects the star rating and I work hard to ship on time. If I have a lot of orders it is a lot of extra manual work to update. Recently the completed orders screen has changed as well so I have to go right into each completed order to check it is Australia Post and not Fedex, then update it. GRRRRRR.

This has happened to me 3 times now in the last 3 years, affecting my score. I'm in the US
