I just opened the store and the spam started

Hi all!

Now I just opened the store (ceramic handmade store) and received the first Etsy Message from supposedly “Support”: the picture says “You must verify your account and follow the link in this QR code,” and there is a link to enter my bank information. But I took a closer look and this is some kind of suspicious site.

The next day, another 20-30 messages arrived from supposedly “Support” with an orange icon. Similar messages about verification.

- How do they find newly opened stores? Via Etsy API?
- Why don't they end up in the Spam folder?

Re: I just opened the store and the spam started

@SelcukCeramic: The scammers seem to like new shops, and in particular seem to target those that appear to violate Etsy rules. You should specify that you are personally designing and / or making the items in your shop as that is Etsy's definition of 'handmade'. https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360024112614-What-Can-I-Sell-on-Etsy?segment=selling and https://www.etsy.com/legal/handmade

When you say "All items are handcrafted by our skilled artisans." it makes it look like you are only reselling other people's handmade items which is against Etsy's rules.

"How do they find newly opened stores?" Most likely they are scrapping Etsy looking for new shops and listings rather than using the API which could be tracked back to them much easier.
