Not really because I don't have the traffic to account for it. Nearly every thing on the first page of my shop and plenty of the other listings were all of a sudden in multiple carts as of yesterday evening. Right. This is a glitch and another thing that isn't working right. Anyone else have this?
If those numbers are to be believed... it's possible that one person added all of your items to their cart -- nearly all of your items are in at least one cart, and a lot are in exactly one cart.
That would only make sense if one person opened three or four Etsy accounts and added the same items to all their accounts in a matter of an hour or two.
I was thinking it was one person, since a lot of them say the item is in one cart.
Anything could be possible. But it's equally possible that the numbers are bogus.
You can actually fake people having items in a cart; I discovered it the other day by accident while testing something. It's completely irreversible and most likely against the rules (it would be considered manipulation I think) but it's defs easy to do, and quickly too.
That said... why would someone do it? It only makes you look more popular...
A lot of people throw things in their cart instead of faves if:
- they're 'probably' going to buy it
- they're waiting for a discount coupon
- the 'add to cart' in search enables them to scroll through the results, clicking 'add to cart' on anything they might want, then they can go through and eliminate them later.
This happened to me a couple of months ago with every item in my shop. It happened overnight and I just assumed it was one of those serial favoritors.
Every once in awhile I have someone fall down the rabbit hole on my IG and fav like 20-30 posts.. I am like wowsa! I have been there though I get on a poster/account I haven't seen before and start faving and then think Holy crap..how many did I fav? I don't want them to think I am some sort of weirdo/stalker! I mean I may BE but I try to keep that under my hat! Lol..
LOL..I thought you meant YOU have a ton of items carted. I was going to say It's YOU! You are the person who is carting everyone's items! Lol..
No more like a billion of my items are in the carts of multiple people. Do bots cart things?
The robot overlords are taking over. as long as they get a working CC....
Etsy is just broken.
Totes borked...
Where do you get a billion from?
@obgoestomarket She stated it was a joke in the OP.
@CarpetCollectionAU Buyers are no longer allowed to post in the forum for about the past year I think.
@JJewellerySuppliesUK That was my understanding, also. But some people seem to be able to "work the system"
I suppose I could understand this if the reason was to contribute positively to discussions but, sometimes, it just seems to be the opposite.
@CarpetCollectionAU Maybe they once had a shop?
@JJewellerySuppliesUK Well .... check the Shop Announcement. It explains a lot.
@CarpetCollectionAU Oh I see. I thought you were making a general comment!
Etsy stopped letting buyers only from commenting in the forums August 2020. I was devastated, my shop was closed, but then someone suggested I open another one. So here I am.
I've wondered about this. I've noticed maybe a half dozen regular posters here who no longer sell on Etsy. And those are just posters whose shops I've looked at for some reason, so I'm sure there are a lot more.
I'm guessing maybe it's like the resellers, they can stay unless there is a problem and they are reported?
I think it may be related to never logging out on a particular device. I noticed I'm logged out of my shop way more often (unintentionally) than here -- here, I'm always logged in without any effort at all. If I had to log in, I'd be leaving a lot less comments... Maybe I should log myself out so I can be more productive.
I had that happen to me once. Out of the blue, woke up and most of my shop was in multiple carts. Was hoping at least one of them would result in a sale, but nope. Maybe your shop/items were featured somewhere in a blog or SM post?
It happened to me once. All my items were carted, no sales. Then Etsy deleted everyone's cart and I had no items in the carts. Within a week everything was back to normal.
Maybe someone is going to buy everything, wait till it arrives and then open a case and say they don't have it.
