I did not opt into two-factor authorization-how do I opt out?

A friend and I have run an Etsy shop for 12 years. I never opted in to two factor authorization thinking that would be a problem when my friend worked from her computer at her home. Yesterday two-factor authorization started without my opt in. Is there a way to opt out? I've been trying to reach Etsy last night and this morning. I've looked for a place in settings where I could add a second email. Does that exist?  If we can't opt out of two factor authorization and can't add another email, might anyone here have a solution? I'm taking time out of work to figure this out because at the moment, we can't run our shop for most of the day (while I'm at work). We don't want to lose our 5 star rating.

From the help center - Two-factor authentication is automatically enabled when you open a new shop on Etsy

Re: I did not opt into two-factor authorization-how do I opt out?

I opened this shop 12 years ago. I have been opting out of Two-factor authentication. A friend lists with me in our shop from her home. Every time she wants to list during the day, they send a code to my email. I'm at work; I can't send her the codes.

@BVAntiques: "A friend lists with me in our shop from her home." It is possible that Etsy is reacting to the multiple logins from different IP addresses and browsers with different fingerprints. Also are you aware that "You must list all of the people involved in your shop in your About section, along with the roles each shop member plays in your business." https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000336867-How-to-Add-Shop-Member-Roles?segment=selling

  1. On Etsy.com, in your Account settings, go to Security.
  2. Choose Turn off 2FA.
  3. Select Continue
  4. A security code will be sent to the device you used to set up 2FA.
  5. Input the code you were sent, then select Turn off 2FA

I understand you and your friend have been doing this for years but technically you are the owner of the shop.  While I have not heard of 2fa being activated by Etsy, it is possible that Etsy is finding the logging in by your friend problematic.  They might be thinking someone is trying to hack your shop.  Think about this security wise in today's terms, not the fact that years ago things were much easier with less security.

You cannot add a second email.

Don't be surprised if it happens again.  You are lacking an about page which should have you both listed.  If she is listed that might help stall future happenings.
