Hello tech team ! Here's the bug :
I'm a French seller. Today after I have listed an item above 150 euros, I can't access to the listing itself, whether I am logged or not. I get a message "unavailable in your area".
I can still access my other items above this price, listed before today.
As a French, I am still allowed to buy from a French or European online shop, without this limit.
Thank you for looking into this !
and of course as a seller, I should be able to look at any of my own listings when I'm logged !
@LePourquoiDuComment: "Hello tech team !" Just so you know, even if Etsy Support or the Help Pages sent you here this is a seller peer to peer forum, and should not be considered a way to contact Etsy, if that is your hope (although Etsy does sometimes read and reply to posts).
You should try https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?segment=selling or you can open a support ticket through Dashboard > Community & Help > Contact Us
Hello @BagmakerSupply , but what's the point to have a bugs and technical issues thread, if no one at Etsy reads it ? I can see moderators in forum threads from time to time, so yes I hope someone who can help will read this. I will try your link though, if nothing changes tomorrow. Thank you !
@LePourquoiDuComment: "... what's the point to have a bugs and technical issues thread, if no one at Etsy reads it ?" A question that many of your fellow sellers ask every day. One reason that has been hypothesized by some is that is a way to not have to actually deal with inquiries and issues.
What is the item? I get that with the tea knives I have for sale as I can't sell them to addresses in the UK. Etsy, in their wisdom, therefore thinks that I shouldn't be able to see them either - as the UK seller. It's highly unlikely I will be buying them from, er, myself...
Are there any items that are similarly restricted in France?
@CatsWhiskersCurios it's an antique jam jar .... no too dangerous : )
Haha - I guess it could be if you threw it at someone.... (:
That makes no sense at all.
well, in the wrong hands.. you never know
@CryzalisDesigns lol so true !
If I change my viewing country at the bottom to France - item unavailable.
If I am set to anywhere else, but Shipping to France - can see it.
While Etsy is required by the French Gov. to collect both VAT and customs duties for items over €150 and etsy won't do it, and therefore will not display items over €150 to French buyers, it obviously shouldn't apply when buying from France as a french buyer.
Looks like etsy has implemented it wrong and is just not showing items over €150 to french buyers, regardless of ships from location.
Etsy's one cap fits all approach doesn't work
@CappuccinoLace hello Liz, thank you for checking on the listing ! And for the explanation.
Strangly I can still access to any item in my shop listed before today.
And of course I can access the jam pot in my dashboard.
@BagmakerSupply "One reason that has been hypothesized by some is that is a way to not have to actually deal with inquiries and issues."
or another hypothesis could be, Etsy's "reduction in force at the end of 2023" = employees being sacked, results in not having enough people to look into these threads. ? .
Etsy was directing people to post in the forum long before they got rid of the employees. If a lot of people report the same problem in technical they will look into it, but if it's just a few they leave it to other people in the forum to try to sort out. There are a lot of computer illiterate people, who think everything is a bug and they need technical support. Usually they really don't. Still Etsy should require better customer service of themselves.
@NoFrogsAllowed I am computer illiterate, and I think this is a bug, and I need technical support : ))
That's really strange. I just looked at your shop and I can see items that are over 150€ and I'm in France.
@Frapperie I can see them too, but I can't click on the jam pot's listing, can you ?
Hmmm.. I'm not seeing any jam pots over 150€ as a new listing...
So that probably means it's being hidden from me confirming your bug .... but to be sure, could you post the link here ?
I clicked your link but it won't let me open the listing either - sorry not available etc, and I am in France too
I clicked on the link to the listing and it's says 'sorry, this item is unavailable'. I'm in the UK. I usually see this message when an item has been deactivated for some reason, sometimes by Etsy due to (suspected) policy violation. Are you seeing this listing in the 'active' category on your listing manager page? Could it have been deactivated by Etsy?
Edited to add: oh you relisted it. Did you deactivate or delete the old listing? Maybe that's why I can't see it.
I'm in the USA. When I click on the link above I get the "this item is unavailable" notice.
@Frapperie thank you for your help. I will contact Etsy tomorrow. As it seems no one else has had this problem today, it seems to be a solitary bug ...
@LePourquoiDuComment
For the record I'm also getting the not available message.
