WHY IS ETSY ALLOWING NAKED PICTURES ON ETSY ???

ETSY IS SUPPOST TO BE A SELLING PLATFORM FOR HANDMADE THINGS!

NOT PROMOTING PICTURES OF NAKED PEOPLE...

PLEASE REMOVE THEM THERE ARE YOUNG CHILDREN SEEING THE PICTURES ON ETSY.

I know, right?  I never accidentally stumble on naked pictures on Etsy.  

@Stitchinthread Boobs and butt are Etsy-legal, and have been since the beginning of Etsy.  Handmade sex toys & BDSM and the like are also Etsy-legal, and have been on Etsy since the beginning.  There are rules for mature items that sellers are required to follow.  But nudity alone, as in boobs and butt, are not considered mature.  

There are shops that are in 100% violation of Etsy's mature policies, no doubt.  But there are plenty that are selling 100% Etsy-legal nudes.

Mature items are allowed to be sold here, but with some restrictions, one of which is that those items are supposed to be censored in their first photo. That said, there are many of these items where sellers are not adhering to policies as to how their items should be displayed. But Etsy, as is typical, doesn't enforce this policy, just as they don't several others.

Also, Etsy makes it clear in their site policies that this is a site for adults, and that those under 13 aren't allowed on it at all, and that 13 to 18 should do so with adult supervision.

Sellers of adult products are required to censor their main image (first photo) so that it’s not explicit. You can report listings that don’t meet that requirement. (But, if you click on explicit listings to report them, you’re telling the algorithm that you want more of that sweet sweet candy, so… yeah).

Clear your recently viewed in your account /privacy area. Fav a bunch of items that in no way can have a common "adult tag". Someone was complaining about their search returns after searching for an artist named D!ck Brown for ex. The search return is touchy. I never get nudie stuff except about a year  ago there was a busty gal in a see through teddy popping up in many feeds for a few days and the infamous naked d!ck photo that was being used for the icon for "costumes" for days ..also a bare boob icon for "handmade".. Don't look Ethel!!

Yep.  Much of the mature items that can be found on Etsy (sex toys, nudes, and the like) are also sold on Amazon.  There are many Etsy sellers who specialize in handmade mature items and have been selling here for longer than the OP.  

The OP has been on Etsy for over 10 years now.  If she is only just discovered Etsy's "mature" side, that is miraculous.

@thePaperFramer  There is enough on Etsy that no one needs to go look other places. And real guy junk can show up all naked and in your face looking for kids stuff. It has happened. Party supplies, well kids cannot pick that stuff out, too many private parts everywhere. There is some pretty rank stuff on here. Nope Etsy is not kid friendly.

I used to think so too, @TickleYourWitch  I had a Costume category pic recommended to me by Etsy that took over a month to remove.

Someone searching for your shop and entering "tickle your" and hitting enter before completing the shop name will get an eyeful.  Yikes!

This is absolutely NOT TRUE.

At least it is not true that anyone was looking at mature listings or anything remotely like that.
That used to be the case in the past, but anyone familiar with the changes in the Etsy search knows that items completely irrelevant to anything you have put into the search bar will come up now.

There was a seller of children's items who came to the forum. He used the word 'see' in a listing, and Etsy saw fit to put pictures of see-through men's underwear on his listing page.

The question is, what kind of "something" would it take to trigger listings far outside what you want to see? Not necessarily anything at all related to it.

To take a non-sex toy example, Etsy's stats have shown that my gender reveal word search puzzles come up in searches for the single word "golf" and the phrase "golf ball" fairly regularly. Why on earth would someone searching those terms be interested in that kind of item?

Well, it makes sense to the AI: Some shops sell the trick golf balls that shatter into a cloud of pink or blue powder for gender reveals. Those particular word search puzzles in my shop are gender reveals. Therefore, someone searching for golf balls must be interested in a gender reveal word search puzzle.

Of course, none of those searches results in anyone buying that item from me. The person probably thinks, "I am so tired of seeing word search puzzles! If that were my hobby, I'd be looking for them, but it's not. My hobby is golf. GOLF, for crying out loud!"

I hope they don't hold it against me for popping up inappropriately in their searches for golf equipment. I promise, I'm not the one making it happen!

At least so far nobody has jumped in to call you a prude. Often, that's where these discussions end up.

Personally, my response to that is always, "Why yes, yes I AM a prude. Your point being?" I don't see that as something to be ashamed of, so I never start a sentence, "I'm not a prude but …" I figure, a lot of online shoppers, some of them our potential customers, are also prudes.

I can see why the algorithms sometimes produce unintended results, such as when I click on a fellow seller's shop because they requested a shop review and only then realize that they sell BDSM items, so for days or weeks afterwards Etsy keeps showing me similar merchandise. I don't like it, but I can understand why the algorithm thinks I want to see them. I also understand the algorithm getting confused by terms with double meanings, like canoe paddles or an artist whose nickname is from "Richard." But I do wish that the much-vaunted AI could get better at distinguishing such things. Whether a person shopping for BDSM gear doesn't find it, or a person shopping for something else, ANYTHING else, does, it's not serving anyone well to show people things they are not looking for.

Maybe someday the AI will figure it out. We can only hope!

You don't have to search for naked men or women or genitals for them to show up in search. 

I've search for something totally unrelated, and I've seen all kinds of items that should be labeled mature and the main picture blurred but they're not.

I am getting SO tired of seeing items shaped like genitals on Etsy. And no, I did not search for anything unusual. I used general terms like "3d printed art" or "modern planter." Some of these items that come up in search results are pretty revolting, actually.
