I have 4 quantity of pendants (2 white gold and 2 yellow gold) , and 5 different length necklace chain. Each length of necklaces I have 5 quantity of (25 total). I figured out how to set 4 pendants and 25 necklaces as variables together so when my 4 quantity of pendant is sold out , the post will just say sold out even though there will be chains remaining(included sample below). I can only do this WITHOUT having individual SKU for each item but I NEED to have individual SKU for each item in order for Inventory to sync with Shopify. How am I able to set inventory to link everything with different SKUs so I can link it in real time with Shopify.
On Etsy you can set a SKU for each variation, go to Variations and tick the SKU box.
If I set SKU for each item including necklace , I will have to turn on "skus vary for each" : material and necklace length. After turning that option on "Because you are vaying for each Material and Necklace length in at least one area, 10 option combinations will be created automatically."
I would end up with having to input a quantity for each necklace variable that is automictically attach to my pendants
material necklace length sku price quantity
14 yellow gold 14inch 123 $110 2
14k yellow gold 16inch 234 $120 2
14k yellow gold 18 inch 312 $140 2
14k yellow gold 20 inch 322 $160 2
14k yellow gold 22 inch 313 $180 2
I only have total of 2 14k yellow gold pendant but I would be required to input total of 10 quantity
That’s right and that’s how it should be. You can either have a generic SKU per product or an individual SKU for each variation. If this setup doesn’t work for you then you need to approach it differently. Are both Materials same price?
Yes Materials are set to same price. I was hoping the community has a different way they can guide me .
You may consider removing Materials from Variations and add it as Personalisation.
I’m not familiar with Shopify but you can ask them the question, maybe you can actually adjust Shopify to Etsy.
I have a similar issue with WooCommerce, I had to find a middle ground between the two platforms, certain things simply don’t match.
Problem with that is that the 4 pendant would not sync with shopify if it is under Personalization and I would have to check manually, it would be easy with 1-10 listing but we have over 100 different items.
Thank you for your help, appreciate you!
You could manage this by using third party software like Trunk.
In trunk you can set up your materials and control their stock level. You then link the product Skus within trunk to the material Skus. So each time you sell a pendant with a chain, trunk both reduces the stock of the pendant, as well as the chain used. It does it with both etsy and shopify. I think it connects with other markets as well.
It also does it across different pendants. For example if you have more than one pendant that can go into the chains.
So if pendant A sells with an 18 inch chain, trunk will reduce the quantity of 18 inch chains a cross all connected SKUs and both etsy and shopify. And it reduces the quantity of pendant A in both shops.
I use the ability to link sku's within trunk to make sure that at any point I don't sell over my capability to make within my dispatch time, made to order items. I have a SKU called "MTO Base" that has the quantity I can make in 2 days. So when a made to a order listing sells it reduces the amount of all made to order items in stock by one. Items that take longer to make can reduce the MTO base sku quantity by more. If the mto base stock goes to 0 then all my made to order items are deactivated in my etsy shop and marked as sold out on shopify. It's really useful if for some reason I cannot get to the forge some days. I can with one action pull out all of the items that need to be made to order, yet leave ready to ship ones in place.
This ensures I don't accidentally sell more than I can make and keep relatively short making times.
Trunk is paid, but with the utility of being able to manage stock availability, it one of the few apps that have continued to survive my periodical "is this worth it? " culls more than once.
What are you using to sync inventory? Like @Taitaya mentioned, Trunk would allow you to do exactly what you want to do. You need to make sure your level of subscription includes kitting/bundling. That allows you to split procucts into parts, and when one part of the item is sold out, it will no longer allow anyone to buy any SKU that includes that particular part. (So in your case, the parts would be necklace length and material.)
Or if that's what you're already doing, you need to make sure that you have "SKUs vary" checked for both of the variations. Then Etsy will allow you to set SKUs for each combination.
Hello Taitaya & Adorabilities! Thanks for your response
I have installed Trunk and tested it out last week along with a couple other apps. Maybe I don't fully understand how to use Trunk correctly, please correct me if I don't.
In order to use trunk I would need to connect it to Etsy or shopify first. Lets say in use etsy first , I would need to have a listing . My listing consist of example below
material necklace length sku price quantity
14 yellow gold 14inch 123 $110 2
14k yellow gold 16inch 234 $120 2
14k yellow gold 18 inch 312 $140 2
14k yellow gold 20 inch 322 $160 2
14k yellow gold 22 inch 313 $180 2
I only have total of 2 14k yellow gold pendant but I would be required to input minimum total of 10 quantity
You would set up each item/part/component as its own product in Trunk.
So 14k yellow gold is one product, 14 inch chain is another product, etc.
Then make the listing on Shopify or Etsy, makins sure you have unique SKUs for each combination. Those products will show up on your Trunk inventory. So 14k yellow gold with 14 inch chain would be SKU 14g-14ch or something.
Then you go to 14g-14ch in Trunk, and edit it so that it consists of one 14k gold and one 14 inch chain.
If I set "SKUs vary" checked for both of the variations, I would need to enter a quantity minimum of 1 pendant for each necklace length(5). It would result with at least 5 pedants 14k yellow gold to go along with each necklace length. Problem is that I only have 2 14k yellow gold pendant. Please advise me if there is another way instead of having to list only pedants in one listing and necklace in a separate listing . It would great if I could give customer the option to buy necklace & pendant in one listing
The way to do it is exactly as I described above.
It starts with creating products in Trunk to represent each part (pendant and necklace) separately.
You'd put a quantity of 1 here just to create the listing, and then it would be adjusted by Trunk when you set it up correctly there.
You will end up temporarily with more stock than you have at hand, but as soon as you link the ETSY and Shopify SKU's to the base products: The pendant and the different lengths of chain and adjust their quantities to 2 (2 for the pendant) and 4 for the chain, the quantity will update on Etsy and shopify .
Now it will appear as if you have a larger stock quantity (2*6+12) but as soon as one pendant sells it will adjust to 6. As soon as both pendants sell out, then the listing will be sold out (inactive as is the case on Etsy)
I have PM you , If it works out I will post the directions on my post for others to view.
Ok, I'll try to help you figure it out.
I manually adjust the inventory between my Shopify and Etsy shops, when something sells on one or the other. You currently have 2 listings, I'm assuming they are in the "test" stage, looking at the prices. Do you think you will be so busy that it will necessitate a synching app?
yes, we have over 100 items for listing + variants
Because if you already have a successful website, Etsy fees are a lot higher. Do you know about Offsite Ad Fees?
We are blessed to have the ball rolling on parents etsy account. Now we are trying to have shopify work along Etsy to use facebook ads
Even Trunk isn't going to solve this issue (I've used Trunk since it was in beta test). The issue is the way Etsy deals with variations and SKUs. If you have more than one variation, Etsy basically does a match on each one (cartesian product).
Do you have a solution for this problem ?
@CraftSupplyHouse
If you have the kitting/bundling version of Trunk, it does what the OP is needing, as long as it has been set up correctly in trunk. (Each part of the variation set up as its own product, and "kitted" to make the SKU.)
