I am hoping someone who has dealt with this, or someone who moderates the forums is able to reach out regarding this issue. We have been selling on Etsy for 10 years and recently they asked us to verify our account information which sent us into a complete tailspin of a faulty, glitchy verification system. Our information was correct, except somehow my personal name was entered as the business name, likely because of they way they had us set our account up when we opened, over a decade ago. I updated the name, provided the ID, filled everything else out and then received a notice that the store would be in vacation mode for 2-5 days until they can verify the change.
Then I received a notice from Trust & Security 2 days later saying they needed proof of transfer of ownership, even though the business was not being transferred. Supplied all business documentation. Then received a separate email from a different agent asking for me to upload my ID, which had already been done, but I did it anyway. Then receive an email from another new agent telling me to update my banking info which has all been verified through Plaid and is not changing.
I am still in vacation mode, I still have a banner every day asking me to upload my ID and verify my info even though I have submitted both a DL and a passport. I have received zero emails from Etsy in response to anything I have sent and I can no longer request a call or chat with an agent, not that it helps because they really don't have any way of helping.
We are a high volume seller and had to lay off 4 employees because of the loss we are dealing with and have received no response from Trust and Security. I only say this to caution everyone to diversify your selling platforms where you can. They have given us absolutely no idea as to when be open again.
Most verification is done by Etsy AI, and if your business involves using personal name and business corporate name, yes confusion can arise. Also, there are numerous cases of account hijack which means by default the Etsy AI puts a hold on everything including selling until everything is cleared by real Etsy employee.
Once in a while, someone from Etsy pops into the forum and they're able to move your concerns and issues up the chain for quicker help. Just keep replying to the same email or chat process that you need more help. I think, if you create another email or chat process you're moved to the back of the line.
Etsy is incredibly short-staffed especially when it comes to timely customer service.
I have seen others call on @FabioMcMustache to see if he can help in tricky situations.
I hope it gets sorted soon.
Etsy didn't have to do all the verification it has to now
so if you put your name in then, as your business name, it wouldn't have picked it up that you made a mistake.
however, many laws have changed everywhere, regard to verification of businesses and taxes.
from etsy's point of view, you had a business name, and you are trying to change that business name to another, so it is a transfer, and they want proof of the TRANSFER
so they need proof of the old business, with owners, as well as proof of the new business showing the owners are the same.
you have not provided proof of the transfer, you have just provided proof of who you are now, so the bots will never verify it.
.... you will keep having to respond to the ticket saying it has not fixed your problem, and you still need help, and hopefully there will be a way to fix it, depending on the laws in your country.
Make sure that how you input your info for verification is the same as how you file your federal income taxes. If you file as a sole proprietorship, then that is the info that Etsy needs, if you file as some other business entity then that is the info that needs to be entered.
