Help with Domain Name

I bought a domain name from pattern; All I want is for anyone to type in my domain name (WWW.camsblingsandthings.com)  and have it go straight to my Etsy shop. That’s what I was told it would do.

Instead, when I type in my domain name this is what I get.

“AN error occurred

There’s nothing here. To create a Pattern site, head to the Pattern Dashboard”. I don’t care about Pattern, I just want my domain name to go to my Etsy shop. That's what I paid for.

When I try to find help on this, it talks about I.P. address, releasing my domain, and other technical stuff I don’t understand. Is there an actual live tech support human being That can help me with this? MY GOD whatever happened to customer service. When I paid Pattern for the product they sold me (my domain name) I became their customer.

Re: Help with Domain Name

Nope that didn't help. Just more stuff about Pattern. They give us lectures about customer service, but their customer service is nonexistent.

When I bought my domain name from Pattern, I became their customer. Where is their customer service to help me with this.

I think you misunderstood how it works. But I could be wrong.

Re: Help with Domain Name

Pretty sure the etsy pattern domains are actually through Hover or Tucows. (Etsy Plus domain discount offer is through Hover and perhaps some older pattern domains, not completely sure)Etsy doesn't actually sell domains nor does Pattern. Pattern is just a product etsy offers and they offer discount on purchasing domains through domain companies they have a working relationship with. I'm not understanding why you would purchase a domain name for Pattern if you don't want a Pattern site. You will need to figure out who you actually bought the domain from in order to figure out how to redirect it to your etsy shop. I think there may be some confusion with who you purchased the domain from.

Here are some Help Center articles about domains and Pattern

https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000337747-What-Are-My-Web-Domain-Options-on-Pattern-?segm...

https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000336227-How-to-Register-and-Manage-Your-Pattern-Domain-...

https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000344248-What-Are-the-Domain-Fees-on-Pattern-?segment=se...

This one is specifically about redirecting your domain to your etsy shop https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360021664693-How-to-Redirect-Your-Domain-to-Your-Etsy-Shop?s...

There is this bit in that article which may be an issue if you purchased the domain for pattern but don't want a pattern site but I'm not sure.

"I bought a domain through Pattern. Can I use it with my Etsy shop?

At this time, there isn’t a built-in way to use a Pattern domain with an Etsy shop. You’ll need to transfer your domain away from Pattern to a new domain hosting provider first, and then you can use the directions in this article to set up a redirect to your Etsy shop."

It gives this link at the end https://help.etsy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000337347?segment=selling

Re: Help with Domain Name

Etsy says they automatically connect to pattern store, so I think you would need to un-connect it and go through the steps to connect to Etsy website instead of your pattern. Google it if you don't find help on Etsy, there is lots of information. I did it back in 2015 before Go Daddy automated it, but I can't remember all the steps.

Re: Help with Domain Name

If you bought it through pattern by Etsy it is only for pattern unfortunately

Re: Help with Domain Name

So I cannot transfer my business domain from hover or hoover (pattern) to another platform - I was told by UIEN website that they could transfer the domain. I know once a domain is purchased, if it expires it goes up in price so, basically I'm stuck! This is not good.

Re: Help with Domain Name

You have to set up your website and wait 24-48 hours for the domain name to propagate before it will be active. In the meantime, you can access it by its IP number, but your customers likely won't do that. Then it can take a month or so for search engines to pick up your listing, so the only people who willk know to use it will be the people you give the link to, at first. But make sure it has propagated and is working before you pass the url to your customers.

But the URL will go to your Pattern site, not your Etsy store. To go direct to  your Etsy store when someone types in your Pattern URL, you would have to do a redirect in your .htaccess file, like:

Redirect 301 https://www.camsblingsandthings.com/ www.etsy.com/shop/CamsBlingsandThings

Which pretty much defeats the purpose of having your own website in the first place.

Re: Help with Domain Name

I think the hover domain names and pattern sites are another scam money making activity. I had the problem where I wanted to take my domain I bought and paid for (when I used my pattern site) to another platform and there is absolutely no control over that. It seems you own the name but not your 'domain'. If I pay for a car parking space, I expect to be able to park in it!

Re: Help with Domain Name

I'd like to know how to move my domain I purchased through hoover or hover on my Pattern website through etsy over to a new web platform, one with more flexibility. Etsy is very limiting and the amount of info needed for each listing is getting monotonous. If anyone can help shine a light on this, I'm all ears - I don't want to remain on Etsy (with their sky rocketing fees, postal charges when you don't post with them, their hidden extras and so on!) and would rather move to a platform where I don't have to feel inadequate and were I have the freedom to edit my website the way I wish instead of every website on Etsy looking like a copy of another. Taking Pro out done me no favours either! I cancelled within just before the brought out the star seller programme and that just made those without a badge not worth shopping with which is rediciculous. Etsy used to be all for their sellers, now its buyer over seller. 3 million might of signed up to the platform between 2021-22 but a great shift will happen and they'll have no sellers left if they don't start supporting their sellers and get rid of that awful star seller badge. Ever shop on Etsy is a star seller, we don't need a badge to tell us that. This is a creative market, we're good at what we do, we hit our market here, a star seller badge will be Etsy's death! Dead honest!
