Hi! Not sure if it is just me or an overall problem, but with the new listing form I can't list some of my vintage kid's clothing simply because the automated category search doesn't offer any relevant options to list them under. For example, I have girls shoes, but when I enter this as a search term in the listing's category window, I get: Women's Skirts, Men's Loafers, Book Covers, Girl's Shorts and Reborn Dolls. Nothing close to what I want to sell. Same with other items. Wonder if I am doing something wrong? There was no problem with choosing categories in the old form, since there was an option to choose manually. Now I can just choose between the ones that I am offered, non of which apply.
I am also having this problem!!!! I was just coming here to ask the same thing. I was trying to find "Kids coats/jackets" for my vintage kids shop and I can't get it to load. I was having this problem in my vintage adult shop as well though, it won't give me the appropriate category like it used to when I search. It's really frustrating!
Me too, nothing except what I don't need. Drat. I hope they fix this soon.
I am having this problem as well. I did a live chat with Etsy. they wanted me to try a variety of things - use a different computer, a different browser, restart my computer. I use my computer to do this work. I restarted it to no avail. I do get different categories on my phone, but I find it difficult to list on my phone. IDK, I hope they fix it.
Funny - I get different categories on phone too, however still not the ones I need. For girl’s shoes I got horror, study guides and wedding bands…
it's ridiculous. we're screwed unless we know the exact category extension.
this may help you find the right category to enter manually:

Sadly doesn’t work for me - I type the exact words and the results are as irrelevant as ever.
Etsy's search is all out of whack! While trying to list a kitchen canister, the search came up with sex toys-dildos! I mean what the heck? How do you even search for categories right now ? Don't get me started on the lack of Shop names on the search items. My sales and views are way down these past couple of days. I hope they fix this glitch/screw up quickly.
I agree and yesterday i had zero views for a 12 hour period. I know that cant be right. This category thing is really awful!
@UStamp2 You win the prize! Instead of a 3 armed sweater it is a 3 pronged you know what... That is so far beyond the pale... ridiculous.
@UStamp2: please, do NOT list your kitchen canisters under "dildos" as they are consider insertables and thus, no longer allowed on Etsy. instead, list them up as "decorative statuettes" in home goods.
JOKING!
here is the complete list of Etsy categories, hope you can find the best sub-category:

perhaps; Home & Living -> Kitchen Storage -> Canister Sets
Happens to me top, I try to list a simple vintage basket
and what I got is this
Women's Watch, Shorts!!!, Fiber Bundles ??
and Drinkware Warmer...uh?? I ended up with Garden Deko... Funny if it weren't so bad for business!! I hope they fix this verry soon!!
to me too not top- sorry
I got a tip from the german community, try it on the Etsy App, there it works much better
Hiya, yes me too. As of yesterday cannot find correct categories. It seems the suggestions from the robot programmer do not correspond at all. Very frustrating. Another "glitch" with new listing system... this used to be fun
Wishing you all well despite the added stress!
I'm trying really hard to get on with the new listing form because, well, I have to. I pay a lot of money, or at least I used to when I got sales that have dropped 35% the last 2 months. Attempting to list new items not just renew old ones because all categories for Vintage seem to have disappeared. I seems this platform would secretly like to get rid of Vintage sellers because the focus is on Handmade, hand-crafted artist and not sellers like me that curate old stuff people may want to buy. In 11 years I've managed to sell over 25k items here, I roll with the changes, I adapt, I don't buy trends in vintage, I buy what people want or at least it seems that way. So now I'm trying list a new old item, it's unlike anything I've sold in the past so there is no corresponding "sold" item to renew with edits. It would slot as " Advertisement " but when I type that in nothing comes in the drop down to select except things not even remotely like and Advertisement. Someone was kind enough to post a link to the categories so I consulted it, Advertisement is now under "Collectibles" but the drop down categories don't list advertisements. <sigh > Now what?
If you hit the details button, it will take you to the categories. Put advertisement in and you should be there.
Yep, it's messed up. What is the item you are trying to list? I actually was able to get "advertisement" to show up when I typed that word in the category search.
Advertisement is there
OP, sometimes you have to go with a vague category such as memorabilia or souvenir. Try mentioning what your ad is made of, such as paper, tin, metal, fabric. It can be hard. Then write down, on old-fashioned paper notebook, what category worked for a listing. Etsy doesn't understand normal vintage categories, in my opinion.
I'm a vintage seller who is also having a problem with categories. I was getting ready to list a ceramic corn-on-the-cob set (with tureen or covered dish, napkin holder, butter warmer, salt and pepper) and nothing remotely comes up and there's no way to look for something. I tried typing in all those words. I was getting phone cases, flip-flops, flavorings, stools. I finally picked something very generic. I think it was "dining and serving." So now my things will be buried with thousands of other dining and serving things. Is this a bug or is it permanent? Or something I am doing wrong?
I sell vintage here also, The new category section is horrible. As you guys have said, properly placing a vintage item takes a lot of time. I dont have that many sales as you guys as Ive only been here just going on 8 years. My latest listing was a Kenner Give A Show Projector. I wasted time looking for the proper placement and in the end I dont like the result. Toys & Games - Toys - Pretend Play. Sadly as my Mom used to say when I didnt the food, if you dont like it, theres the door. Oh and dont expect your money back either,
I want to sell an antique photography ... the category is missing

How to find the good one?
You have your other vintage photos listed as:
All categories Art & Collectibles Collectibles Memorabilia
If you can't find this category in the new listing form, then copy one of your existing listings and change the photo and details.
Photography categories have always been an issue with listings as the choices are things like ‘wall art’, which isn’t really appropriate for tiny Victorian photos. Up to now I’ve been copying listings but I’m not looking forward to starting a new one from scratch.
